Temperature Gauge

    Evening all

    I am looking for a bit of advice.....I have a sax that is being prepared for rallying / being used for autotests.

    When I took it for a drive on the weekend the temperature gauge kept going up to half way or just a bit more then dropping back down a minute or so later. It did this for a complete 30 minute journey; however, the drops got progressively less.

    Is this anything I should worry about? It drove fine and the oil temp was dead right.

    I have an autotest next sat and I really want to make sure it is ok for that....

    Any help would be appreciated!

    you should check the sensor isnt broken. thermostat blocked or faulty and of course bleed the system, which would be the first thing id do.

    Thanks, I will do this saturday, do you know where I can find a step by step guide for all the above??

    If its the water temp your talking about on the dash, the sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine, blue plug on the vtr.. On the vts I have no idea where its located. But dont know what sax you have....

    Sounds like the sensors faulty though. There about 12 quid on eBay mate.

    EDIT: ah you have a vts. Anyone know where the water temp sensor is located on the vts??

    had same problem on mine, changed sensor, added rad weld and bleed the system this didnt work, changed the thermostat and this solved the issue. some times air locks causes the temprature to rise, adding more anti freeze can bring the temprature down as the heat transfers much better with a rich mixture

    untrue, water is better for its cooling properties than antifreeze but it causes corrosion and can freeze etc. Also you dont want to really be adding radweld.

    To the OP:
    Check the water pump is OK and the radiator in good nick, coolant is bled properly and the stat isnt sticking shut. I recommend an 82 degree stat also
