Is heatwrap worth it??

I've got a 106 GTI which I'm currently doing a few bits to. And I'm ordering a 4-2-1 manifold for it soon. So was just wondering if I should heatwrap it or not. Just wondering if it's worth it and whether it gains anything??

    Cheers James

, Suprised i didnt get a sarcy reply lol. But from what i understand of it is it protects other parts around the engine bay from getting hot and also increase's performance but the manifold doesnt last as long

Yeah thats what I thought about. Like keeping the engine bay cool. But didn't realise it had any performance gains aswell. And the mani is stainless so shouldn't rele corrode if I did heatwrap it.

    I did mine today

    1) Pain in the arse to wrap, you have to soak it in warm water
    2) You have to pull it TIGHT!
    3) Once you get it wrapped, getting the manifold stud's in are a pain in the arse.

I wouldn't do it again due to the aggro, but, the engine bay was allot cooler.

Oh, Metal cable ties are also a pain in the bum. They get in my way

Well that's made it alot easier to decide whether to do it or not lol. And I find that once I've used metal cable ties I end up with loads of slices in my fingers lol.

I always use lockwire but you need a special tool to make it easy. You can tighten it with pliers though.

I recommend heatwrap if you have a heat issue in the enginebay. I doubt there is any noticeable performance gain on these cars. Manifold life will be reduced as the manifold cannot naturally expand and contract as it wants.

I'm thinking the heat wrap on my turbo mani has made it warp. Not 100% but I drove it for a few weeks with no wrap on and was fine.

Took it off as my turbo gasket went so I thought I'd wrap it. Lasted a week and started to blow.. Now the flange is all warped.

its worth it just to keep your alternator alive a bit longer

Your flange is too thin. Simple as that i'm afraid.

I dont think its down to it being thin tbh kam. Its the same thickness as my raceland and that didnt bend.its just poor quality. Im Having it machined the weekend so it's flat again. Hopefully it won't warp again as the Stresses that warped it have gone. But we shall see.

Very common in cheap manis. Come to think of it ross's dp mani warped.

I never measured the Raceland but I doubt it was the thickest of flanges

I hate it when that happens!

yup. Bad flange is not nice ;D

Wrapping my manifold stopped my 5th alternator from frying, like its predecessors.
