stick some blue tack on the end of a stick or something
  5. #5
If you can still see the socket then get hold of some extra long nose pliers(halfrauds sell them)& try fishing it out that way mate.
  6. #6
If your spelling has any reflection on your mechanical skills then I'm not surprised

If you get a socket on the crank pulley turn it slowly till you can see the socket come up, be very careful though. Make sure you turn it clockwise and get a mate to help you out.
  15. #15
Always get one Piss taking TWAT on these forums...

Hope you get this sorted mate, I'd try extra long nose pliers mate.

  18. #18
Halfords/B&Q/Toolstation etc.. All sell flexible magnetic pick up tools for around a Fiver.

Failing that, A Chopstick with some bluetack or Hubba Bubba on the end.
  19. #19
or maybe if you can see the socket and stick a exstension bar down to attach to socket if its facing the right way
  20. #20
Maybe it's stuck, pour some lubricant in there.

fill the cylinder to the brim with oil. the socket should float to the top. remove the socket then run the engine to remove the oil

    Lol at this thread.

If the piston is down crank it slow to bring it up.

Reach down with a magnetic telescopic pick up and hook it on, i reckon it can be done.

Last case scenario head off job, dont want to be doing that just sit there for hours trying.

    Try..

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_241551

Just crank the engine to bring it up then fiddle it out with one of these tools.

Head off job inclu cambelt bolts, HG is around £100 doing it your self £350 - £400 for a garage so with that in mind get it out !

can get a head gasket on its own for £40, ive re-used head bolts, just measure them, every forum bum will always say replace them, if Citroen themselves dont say you have to replace them then why? I am talking about doing the job on the cheap mind, my vts got all new shiny bits lol

if its still sat on the piston but to low get a socket on the crankshaft pulley ul need two people one to turn it slowly so the piston is higher and the other to tell you when to stp when its near the top and you could maybe access it better then

You can get a full gasket kit and bolts from carspares £52 or online for £38 delivered. FAI headgasket too! Problem is though you need a decent torque wrecnh and a dial/angle gauge so thats extra cost but once its bought youve got them for life

a torque wrench is always good thing to have! my housemate that does my head bolts up always takes educated guesses at the angles, the bolts can take more than the specified 20NM and 260 degrees so dont be scared to do them a little further lol

and yea i forget how cheap gasket kits are for 8v's the kit was £120 for my vts and that was the cheapest i could get when i did the h/g on my gti i just bought the h/g on its own and reused the bolts so i did it all for £30 lol

    Enlighten me jay.

And whats going on with the OP?

Its been said, but crank slowly until you have bought the piston almost to the top of its stroke and use the magnetic stick to pick it out .

How did you manage to lose the socket through there though? Not taking the piss, btw, one of those things i guess?
  47. #47
This is epic, I did a slight wee at turning the car over and shaking it!

    Tell me about this sock!!!!
