K03/K04 turbo maybe?

  1. #1
Right i have an audi S3 aswell as my VTS but i am breaking the S3 in the new year and have been thinking of using the K04 turbo setup off the S3 on my saxo. I also have a K03 turbo lying around off a golf GTi.

Is there anyone on here or anyone know of anyone running the K0! setup?
I have been looking at buying a mates old forged engine who was running 275bhp so i will be sorted for an engine.

Any info would be a big help.

    What do you need
    To know,
    Right mani and
    Downpipe it'll fit,
  3. #3
Should be ok running standard manifold and i will get a down pipe made up. Been looking for a manifold to fit the K04 turbo to but no luck yet, may need to have a custom one made.
Will i need new management or will it run on a standard ECU with a remap?

Only think i am thinking is if i can get shot of all the electronic boost controls what are on the audi and just run the K04 on the actuator with a manual boost controller.

Is there anyone you know of who uses the K0 turbo set up?
  4. #4
You'll need new management to keep it right, even predator can run electronic boost control, most use diff turbos, usually a garrett t/gt series as they're more common and have off the shelf mani's available
  5. #5
I am only thinking of going for the K04 as i have the full turbo and oil feeds i can use straight from my S3. What is predator by the way?

See the affiliates section mate, standalAlone
    Management

the turbo isn't usually the big cost. manifold can be pricy.

I use a TD04 from a scooby, smaller that a T25 and can boost to 1.5bar no problem, not sure on the K0

Ko's are good turbos from what I have seen and a ko4 would be a good choice for someone wanting high power upto 280bhp

a t25 would not boost 1.5bar for very long.. and i couldnt see it holding that even if it reached it, for the most part their max "unsafe" boost is 18psi...above 15 without a 360 degree thrust bearing and your starting to really push your luck

gt25 would be diff...but your run of the mill t25 will not be happy trying to boost that

k03s would be ideal, easy get 250bhp and not be pushing it...keeping nice inlet temps and quick spool

    No, TD04 boosts to 1.5bar.

If you talk it, it sounds different!
  11. #11
A ko3s is pushing it's luck at around 230-240hp.. If you want this sort of power or more I'd personally go with ko4

had a few mates running them happily at 240-250, no more

if wanting more then as said a k04 would be better

Don't agree, the ko3s will run out of puff at around 230'ish hp.. Shove more boost through and you don't get hp just torque. Look at burgs car on here for a well spec'd k03 that was run on a accurate RR

Have you got any dyno plots of your mates graphs?

Also, this is on a 20v turbo lump with more cc, more valves etc
  14. #14
i dont, but im sure they will have...

nah just 1.8ts from ibizas and golfs, suppose the dynos could be a little out like, ive heard most say 230-240 from them...but tbh 10bhp isnt a million miles away is it, one of them was a super low mile car
  15. #15
    The 1.8t is a 20v turbo lol

My main point is you said you could have 250hp and not be pushing it, this I disagree with.

    Ko4 ftw

sorry i never meant not pushing it to the limits of destruction...you could run more boost..but it wouldnt last long my bad....

and i know, i meant just your run of the mill 20vt's..nothing special,

lots of threads with claims of up to 250bhp on the ko3s..but how many of those will be over reading etc...but id still say its not impossible to get 250bhp from an S with that turbo..mods dependant, i now most ppl only get 230-240 on the 20vT engine, but that a diff engine( i know it should make more being bigger engine cc etcbut thats not always the case)

plenty ppl run them at 20psi no probs..... if you couldnt squeeze 250bhp out of an S on that boost on that turbo id be surprised

but i get what your going at mate..i shouldnt have worded it like that

I have both a K03 and a K04 turbo, The K03 is sitting in my shead and the K04 is on my S3, i was running the S3 with a custom map at 23psi no problem at all. My S3 is running 290bhp and i have been told the K04 is good for 310bhp and thats it. as for the K03 i dont no anyone running any more than 220bhp but i no you can make about 275bhp on the K03s at a push.
I would be going for the K04 as there would be no point putting the K03 on to change it not long after because am not happy.
Would i run the K04 on the the actuator or would i have to fit a boost controller in there as the S3 has an electronic N75 valve what controls the boost via the ECU.
  18. #18
May aswell just run electronic if your going for the Pred, just buy a boost solenoid
  19. #19
This is the N75 what controles the boost via the ECU on all 1.8 20vt engines so i should be able to have this wired into the loom and run off the Pred ECU i would have thought.

There is one pipe to the actuator, ont to the top boost pipe and one to the intake pipe

This is the set up i was using on my S3 before i go an N75 race valve

Yeah, if you enquire about it with andy I'd imagine he'll be able to wire it in for you, he mentioned it to me a while back, running through the wiring for the carbon canister iirc... May even plug straight onto that, the plug looks very similar

Yeah i will ask about it when i get started on the project. Your only down the road from me aswell mate, i live up in beamish Shouldnt take long to get things bolted on haha

Nice one mate, look forward to seeing the project
