Exhaust, work this out?

    Hiya

Bought a massive round back box to fill the hole on the back on me VTR. It came off a VTR MK1 (the lad who i bought it off claimed) so wouldnt fit mine. Had it cut and welded into place but the exhaust is SILENT!, theres gases coming out of it so i know its not blocked....i wanted a bit of a roar to me car and now its even quieter than before!

What can i do to give it that little bit more of a grunt!? i thought a massive exhaust would of!

    Thanks

    Dave

remove any silencer boxes and decat it

Straight through centre pipe to remove any silencers in there, then it'll be loud. But with a massive back box you won't see amuch performance gain if an, you'll just lose back pressure unless it's a decent brand.

what do u mean remove silencer boxes? a friend of mine told me to pull the stuff out of the inside or fill with petrol and burn it out......the thing is, the lad who i bought it off said it was loud already!

im not arsed about performance gains pal, the cars quick enough, just wanted it for a little nicer sound and to fill the bumper

Dont burn anything out of the silencer thats pikey as out.

Get a centre pipe for it that is straight through. is it a Mk1 vtr?

Basically behind the bcak box there should be a long pipe under the middle of the car. This will have 2, maybe 3 boxes along it somewhere?

You need to buy a 'racetube' or 'straight through centre pipe' to get rid of these. This will eliminate any silencing in the exhaust and will result in a loud backbox.

Ahh ok, so im assuming this is "decatting" my car yeah??

    Are these expensive?
  12. #12
Not quite. a Decat is where you take the catlytic converter out of the car. Since yours is a MK2 vtr im assuming the cat is in the manifold, so getting a cetnre pipe wouldn't decat it, jsut take otu the silencers to give you a bit more noise.
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/c...ust-pipes.html These are the pipes in question. Choose one suitable for the year of your car and for your budget. you can buy one with a silencer in it, but since you just want noise that won't be the option for you.

the cat is at the front of the car, a racetube is not a decat at all. you can get race tubes from about £50 new on ebay less if you look for second hand ones.

so if i get one of these will i get any gain from it and will i need to worry come MOT time?
  15. #15
In theory you would gain performance everso slghtly, but not a lot, it will just make it louder since you have a dustbin as your backbox.
Nope MOT time should be okay in theory, it's when you decat the car you have to worry about MOTs.

simple answer why there is no sound, if its quieter than before its too big for the engine size, de-cat will make it louder but if u wanna save your self a load of trouble just get a smaller box

Technically wrong - if the car has (for example) 3 silencers as std then it should always need 3 to pass the MOT. Having said that I've never failed one or had one of mine fail either. It would be the tightest tester in the world that'd fail a car for that

My mk2 failed mot on exhaust being too loud because neighbours were complaining about the volume so the tester had to stop the mot lol

just save up and buy a decent exhaust,

manufacturers spend thousands building and testing

should be some cheap second hand ones on the usual places
