Which engine and gearbox oil....

Right had a quick search and nothing came up so if its been covered before my bad.

Doing a service on my car (1.4) ordering all the things soon and instead of just choosing oil makes as I please wanted to see what oil on here reccommend for both the engine and also the gearbox. Also part synthetic or full?

Also spoke to a mate the other night who was talking to some bmw expert/nerd about his e36 beemer and the guy said as engines wear you can actually change the watt of the oil a bit as it can actually help them as obviously things wear and arent as tight. What are people opinions on this?

What car you got would be a start ... But 10/40 part s.. Gearbox oil 75/80 2L.

In my 1.4 furio i just used halfords stuff was fine..

I've just noticed a sticky at the top of this very section about oil haha, I think that tell's me I need to go and get some sleep! How the hell did I miss that!!!
