Piston Dimension

    Hi Chaps

Bit of a strange question here, but i'll ask it anyway.

Does anyone have a TU5JP (1.6, 8 valve engine, typically VTR) piston that they could take a measurement for me?

I need to know the distance in the vertical direction from the centreline of the piston pin to the top surface of the piston.

If anyone knows this, or knows where I may be able to find out this information I will be very grateful.

    Thanks

    Alex

just text tom asking if he can get hold of one

we have lukes 1.6 8v xsi engine lying around however i dont think he'll let you strip it down to get a piston out lol

tom might have one at work, but not sure when hes back though

Ah cool man. I have done a few calculations and I make it to be 29.5mm. That is what I am using in my CFD at the moment. However, It would be good just to have one to measure for clarity.

Dont worry about it if it is too much trouble! My calculation seems, at least, about right!

does this help at all? i dont think it does but thought its worth posting

the height of the piston is 57.5mm if the center line of the pin is directly in the center of the piston then the dimension your looking for is 28.75mm however i have assumed the postion of the piston pin so i might very well be wrong

EDIT: on second thoughts the dimension your looking for doesnt seem to be half of the height of the piston, looks everso off center

Ah nice one sam. I think I worked it out right now though. However I'll check out that webpage tomorrow to make sure.

    Thanks again

May i ask why you are running CFD on a 8 valve saxo engine?

Its part of my final year dissertation project. I chose the 8 valve cylinder head because it is relatively simple. Also, there was someone near me selling one for sod all so I got that. I have now used that to make a model in CAD and am now using STAR-CCM+ to check out flow characteristics of the ports and valves.

If you are interested in this then I'd be happy to show you some results in the future.
