And breathe. Lol. Now is that the biggest fail ever?? I would think so!

After having it done I really would like to keep it for a project car, to do the bits and learn for myself, but really? Is it really worth keeping???

  2. #2
bin it, not worth spending that money on a 1.1
  3. #3
Id whip it up for £250ono MOT due. XD srs...

Defo use it as a project to practice with. You need cars like this, nothing like jumping in the deep end with a lot to do - makes you feel awesome when it sails through an mot though.

    Some list.

    How bads the rust??

If you can't weld, it'll soon mount up in labour charges.

    Quite an impressive fail list!

It's not overly bad, and no I cannot weld, but my neighbour has over 40 odd years experience and all the machinery. So he has offered to help.

    I think so too!

Oh devil you are knowledgeable in the insurance area, I need to ask a few q's but I will pm them
  8. #8
its about as bad as my old vts when i took it for an mot lol

  9. #9
It would make less reading to ask what it passed on lol.
  10. #10
Lol it certainly would Steve. A quick question. I need to know if I can declare sorn without the DVLA telling my insurers? and obviously not driving it because of the failed MOT?

Or should I, just leave the insurance alone to run out in April, and leave the tax to run out in March and declare sorn then? So no one is none the wiser? Either way I will NOT be driving the car, it is on private land and I want my NCB!

sounds like a right cunt of a tester...but there again most rob you tese days, times are hard for most garages

i always make it clear i do all the work myself on my cars when they go in for test

but there again i always do some basic checks first...things like tyres being as bald as that should mkae you think...hmm i might not pass a test! thats 3 points and a £60 fine, and the point code would bum rape you on insurance renewal
  12. #12
To be honest Blackie, I think the tyre business is bollocks. I had a new pair, and I mean brand new from Bathwick tyres put on them 1 week before! And they say that! I got back, checked them myself and they are fine.
  13. #13
ha.. take it back and show him, it sais one tyre damaged, 1 tyre below legal limit
  14. #14
Get it tested at another testing station(if thats legal)

of course it is, sounds like a right knob that one, gotta be a nob to fail on check straps!
  16. #16
I might take it back to where I bought it. It had the same gunkyness as shown in another thread, and failed an MOT. Yet they sailed it through one just to be able to sell it to me......
  17. #17
Sounds like they humped you over ^

    Dig deeper.
  18. #18
    fuck me lol
    sounds like a deathtrap lol
  19. #19
wow lol think u need to go to another mot center mine has small things like door strap broken and buckled front wheel but they dont even mention this on my mot or advisory :\
  20. #20
Right, I have just put her down as SORN, which I have to. But I shall just keep quite about the insurance until it pops up. After that, I plan on stripping her and seeing what the issues are and learning from it using it as a project car. Hey, who knows, it might turn out very decent.
  21. #21
whats it got to do with insurance anyway? i wouldnt tell them and leave it so get ya no claims discount
  22. #22
i know the guy at my garage, and my car is shit, literally just shit, it passed last week, which left me and the guy both speechless, anyway, because i knew him i think he didnt check half the stuff you listed, the emissions test was a right laugh, more holes in my exhaust than the ryder cup, but even kwikfit werent that strict, was it just a normal garage or a company like national, kwikfit etc?
  23. #23
Halfords autocentre. I'm awaiting the 'serves you right' etc etc
  24. #24
    Wow, thats impressive.

could keep it for a project, some of the work is pretty small and easy, the hardest would be finding the rust and fixing that!

    edit:

I will just go for the start of the list.......

    1) Exhaust Emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive [7.3.d.4] New cat?

    2) Brake pedal anti-slip provision missing (pfffft) Unfortunately it is a fail!

    3) Nearside front suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint. new wishbone is easiest way

    4) Offside front suspension has excessive play in a ball joint. see above

    5) Offside front constant velocity joint is insecure get a cabletie and bung it with grease, or if you can get a proper clip for it

    6) (fuel filter) fuel system component is insecure. (would explain why I have been drinking like a fish) nothing to do with consumption, just means the fuel filter straps buggered. cable tie it back.

    7) Nearside front suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded. probably rusted around the rear wishbone mount, or nearby (sills?)

    8) Offside front suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded. see above

    9) (pipe is loose, clip is broken) fuel system component insecure this is why you've been drinking!

    10) Nearside rear Tyre has a cut in excess of the requirements deep enough to reach the play or the cords. see advisory on the wheel

    11) Nearside rear Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm see above (you should have done all 4 at the same time!)

    12) Front brake application uneven (check calipers, fluid level, bleed, new pads etc)

    13) rear brake application uneven (whip drums off, new shoes, bleed etc)

    14) Nearside front brake juddering severely warped disc?

    Advisories:

    15) Windscreen has crack less than 40mm circle outside of zone 'A' wouldn't worry unless you can get a screen cheap

    16) Nearside front direction indicator slightly discoloured lmfao

    17) Offside front direction indicator slightly discoloured lmfao

    18) Offside front coil spring corroded check its not going to break on you, otherwise just leave it.

    19) Rear seatbelts not tested why?

    20) Both front door check straps are damaged/broken parts are about £20ish?

    21) Oil leak where?

    22) Nearside rear wheel is buckled. get a spare steelie and put a new tyre on, then bin this wheel (with the gashed tyre too)

    23) Lower Gearbox mounting is perished, split and has play easy job

    24) Corrosion all underneath vehicle to all parts sand back, paint, underseal.

    25) Corrosion hole to offside rear cross member can't be that bad if its an advisory, but keep an eye on it

    26) Exhaust is very smokey. probably due to the cat being goosed

    20) Both front door check straps are damaged/broken parts are about £20ish? never had this when took mine for test and mine was well fucked, cracked, creaked and banged all at the same time. lol.

This guy must be a total newbie to testing as I went school with a lad that works for his dad testing and got a list similar to this on and the missus last car and the was newer than mine.

Ok, I feel this deserves a huge bump. I'll tell you why. I have gone through the trouble of fixing every fault going except a few advisories on this car! Man it's been a ball ache but I am proud and have learnt a LOT. The MOT will hopefully take place this Saturday and am shitting a brick. Can't understand why though.

    Wish me luck people.

Eek they`re bloody fitters not mechanics.

mine was bigger. had 3 pages of fails. took me 2-3months of low budget sorting it and it passed 1st time i retested it.

its not as bad as when you 1st look if you group things up. redoo all your brakes and give them a good bleed, that knocks 2 or 3 off your list. replace your rear tyre, knocks 2 off the list. what i did was group things together. as they put 3 or 4 things down for the same part just worded different.

sorry mate didnt read the comments. you sorted it good lad. good luck with mot

Ha sorry mate. I feel I might have misplaced my faith in this car. Had just booked an MOT, and well the car has a fair few problems still. Not worth risking an MOT to be perfectly honest. Going to try and sell it on for spares or repairs and get either a Focus or a VTS/R.
