do you reckon this would put out 210 bhp?

  1. #1
basically im having this disscussion/ argument with this boy who claims his 106 s2 rallye with the 1.6 8v engine with "forged pistons, bigger valves, gasflowed head, race cams and throttle bodies" puts out 210 bhp????

what you reckon its really putting out?
  2. #2
Never seen that power from an 8v before

    show him this. 206 bhp N/A 1.6 16v

    Not 210bhp that's for sure...
If he was actually serious he would give the model of cam and not just 'race camshaft'. One other thing which makes me thing he's barking up the wrong tree is the fact he says 'cams'. Rallye engines only have 1 camshaft.
  4. #4
Play a little dumb and ask him where he got his two cams from and how much...
  5. #5
That guy on here has a 1.6 8v with 157bhp. Anymore than that as NA form and I think thats pushing the limits of whats possible with an 8v
  6. #6
Blackies 8v turbo with all those mods is only like 220?

    So I'd say he's a lying cunt
  7. #7
id say, its more around 212bhp.
  8. #8
    No chance.

To the op I think the guy your having the debate with is just talking big trying to show off.Ask to see his car get him to lift the bonnet & ask him where`s the missing cam?
  10. #10
    Not in this lifetime

i believe so, or maybe he has blasted himself into hyper-space in his standard 1.4,whilst inventing high-tech componentry for Mercedes

There are 8 cams on a camshaft. Hence cam-shaft.

Suggest to him he joins you for a power run at a local dyno? Then watch him squirm for excuses why he won't do it

HAHA, funny, i doubt even a super expensive stroked 8v could get 200bhp NA tbf?! anyone know any stroked 8v TB builds?

cam lobe is still a cam mate, a cam by definition is shape that provokes movement in another part of a system

I would pay for the dyno for him, and invite anyone who has heard of him. It might be childish, but it would shut him up

I've seen 8v race engines quoted as 170-180ish. No where near road legal, with a stroker you could say its pheasable.

ive seen some 170s... didnt think the stroker would yield a whole 30bhp...but 20bhp sounds alot easier tbf

still, unless this IS a stroker its not putting out anywhere near those figures

anything less than 300bhp in an 8v is just not worth doing

Well kam quote that a 708 specked engine on a stroker kit could easily reach 200 based on figures from the manufacturers, so much wilder cams in an 8v doesn't mean it's a total no.

But obviously we are discussing another tangent.

yeah ive read this, so wilder spec on less valves should still be do able with some headwork/valves...obvs there will be a clear handicap for the 8v in terms of flow..but still looks good on paper

need someone rich enough to tune a rallye and keep it "original"
  33. #33
Yeah I didn't think it was anywhere near that. After talking to him and telling him you guys thought he was talking shit it then changed to 190 bhp with a vts engine that was forged and other bullshit. So that's where the convosation ended. Thanks anyway guys
