Options Ideas?

I am keeping the BMW as a daily and not tampering with it...

This leaves me needing something to fiddle with. So far I have 3 options:

    Corsa B - C20XE or LET
Old Ford - Zetec Turbo conversion
    Turbo VTS engine

Which do you think is the best idea?

I would prefer not to go down the XE route tbh as engines are going for silly money nowadays with no garuntee of them working £400ish for block without ancillaries.

Currently don't have a saxo but have a vts engine.

    Help!

How much do you have to spend on aftermarket ECUs, custom manifolds, turbos etc? and does it even have to be turbo?

Personally, I'd go for a Mk2 Escort and transplant a reliable but powerful cossy engine into it. Or maybe a Mk2 Golf Vr6 / 1.8T conversion.

Shoestring budget at the minute lads, but this is going to be a start to finish project taking about 2 years to complete.

I dont mind sourcing bits by themselves etc and having a go myself, I want to do as much as i can myself, then before turning on engine dayy get a mechanic to check over my work and make sure everything is a-ok.

Ideally I need boost back in my life!

Shoe horn a Fiat 20v Turbo into something! Boost and that 5 pot sound is a recipe for winning

Don't really want to go down the fiat road. Its either boost the vts, xe or zvh.

C20LETS are lovely, but they are alot of money for what they are.

Start with the VTS unit then considering you already have the engine, what are you going to be putting it in?
  8. #8
I would put it into a saxo I guess.

What would I need to do to turbo the 16v? and what sort of power would I be looking at?

    AX Vts??

I wouldn't be overly bothered about what car the engine will go into.

More concerned over the difficulty? Could I turbo a VTS engine myself if I have a haynes manual and help from here?

Fitting the turbo conversion itself(manifold, turbo, downpipe, oil and water feeds, etc) would be fairly straight forward.

Although I have a decent knowledge on engine building I would still want a pro to build the engine for me i.e, fitting the rods, pistons, cams if you decided to go for aftermarket ones, timing the engine etc. I'd hate to spend thousands on an engine build for it to go pop because I saved a few quid building the engine myself.

There's A LOT to a turbo build if you are doing it properly. Looking at my chosen spec list now for a turbo build there are 38 main items involved. That doesnt include all the little things like clamps, hoses, pipework, any chasis modifications etc.

I can spec you a weapon turbo engine but there's a lot to it.
    Probably looking at £8k + for 300bhp+.

What bits would I need to see 200bhp?

mk2 escort hahaha you got 5k min for a reasonable one. and about 1k for an ok cosworth lump.

the best thing you want to do cause your on a budget, is simply.

    mk2 fiesta
    2.0 zetec
    bike carbs
    megajolt.

    or infact.
    mk2 fiesta
    1.8 130 spec zetec
    bike carbs
    megajolt.

    see 150-160 bhp on that.

ZVH isn't as simple as putting a CVH head on a zetec block it needs the be machined and some oil ways blocking off or adding can't remember been a while lol.

    you'll find a decent useable mk2 for around £600
    a 1.8 130 spec zetec around £100-£150.
bike carbs fuel regulator+ pump around £100
    megajolt £250
if you get a base spec one (one with a x/flow) than you'll need
a CVH alternator bracker + adjuster- about £20
    drivers side tiebar- £20
a CVH gearbox cradle if wanting to use a 5sp box £40
    xr2 caliper and carriers £50

then a little wiring to get it running and away you go.

    some of the guys i know run 13.5 second 1/4 on 180- 190 bhp in a mk2

or if your set on boost. then either a fiesta RST or even an escort RST CVH in a mk2 alough it is quite expensive to get a RST lump to 200bhp but if you want ZVH then you can use all thoes parts.
