Exhaust rear centre section: 1.1 & VTR same diameter?

  1. #1
My rear centre section snapped clean in half last night just before the back box, I have ordered a shiny new Supersprint section from Kam but I have a spare 1.1 rear centre piece and was hoping I could fit it to get me about for a few days until my Supersprint arrives.

Anyone know if this is possible?
Are the diameter and length the same?
Will I have problems with shape?

    Any help appreciated.

I don't know if the length is the same but the bore of the 1.1 pipe is smaller than a vtr so I reckon u would find it pretty hard to fit on to be honest

    Cheers bud.

    You know that for certain?
  4. #4
Yeah I know for certain that the bore size of the 1.1 is a little bit smaller than the vtr, think its by 1/2 an inch

    Thanks for that.

I managed for sort out a very temporary measure that will get me to work and back for a couple of days.....

My phones being a c*nt and not loading your photo so unfortunately I can't see your bodgerific creation

Your car will work fine with just half an exhaust, it will just be a bit slow, loud and drink your fuel a bit more

haha that's one way to do it!

Need some new clamps mate, look like that would snap if you undo them. Can pick up the whole clamp with bolts for a couple of quid these days.

theres no reason why a 1.1 pipe will be smaller in length than a vtr pipe, should of just fit straight on if both pipes are from cars of similar ages

    1998 1.1
    2003 VTR

Perhaps not, but I think only the front section is different between the mk1 and mk2.

Nevermind, this will save me from the Peasant Wagon

On an side note, Will I need to order a 50mm wire gasket for my Supersprint centre pipe?

yea in that case 1.1 the center pipe wont fit unless the center pipe has a mk1 cat or decat pipe connected to it, but then you'll be rocking around with 2 cats ha

the supersprint center pipe uses the same size as the vts, so whatever that is lol kamracing sell the gaskets, didnt you order one with your pipe?

Ah that's ok if it is the standard size, I have a couple of those.

I forgot about the gasket when I ordered, didn't check if it came with

the vts gasket is bigger than vtr one just in case you have vtr ones lying about

    vtr gasket is a 46.5mm and the vts/ss uses a 50mm gasket

The standard 1.1 centre pipe would not fit anyway, even if it is the right length. The diameter of the vtr pipe is 2" and the 1.1 is 1.5" and you might be able to attach it to your manifold, but not your backbox as you wouldn't be able to connect the two pipes. If it was to "somehow" fit then you still lose performance as the smaller 1.1 pipe can't pass as much air through, restricting the air flow and then creating way too much back pressure.

Your standard gasket should be ok for your race tube so it should be ready to be fitted when it comes in

they do fit i had one on my vtr for a while

also i dont think he cares about performance or back pressure, as the thread says its only until his ss section turns up and have you seen his repair job??? lol
  16. #16
As I said on an earlier reply my phones being a tw*t so unfortunately can't see the repair. I just couldn't see how a 1.5" tube can fit onto a vtr backbox (2" tube) being so much smaller
  17. #17
I'm not doubting anyone is correct, but this is why I asked if you were certain
  18. #18
lol is that a tin can wrapped around there?
  19. #19
You asked if I was certain about the bore sizes which I am, nothing else was mentioned

Your still a lot better off with the race tube than the 1.1 tube anyway

wrong. my system goes 16v 4-2-1, 1.1 centre pipe, 1.1 backbox. and it does not blow between manifold and center pipe
