Looking for a exhaust that isn't too loud.

I've fitted a standard exhaust back on my car for the time being and i'm loving how quiet it is.

Got me thinking about when i can afford another exhaust what one to get. I've herd that Kam and S/s are moderate to listen to until you give it some revs? My sportex was very very loud and was wondering how these compare to that. I do have a de-cat and a manifold.

2" supersprint with OEM system cat etc is nice and quiet inside.

Not loud outside either untill it pops on downshift.

just leave a standard exhaust on, i like the sound of a standard exhaust.

raspy exhausts are poo anyway, and draw attention to you for no real gains on the road.

Thanks John, this is sort of what i was thinking.

I do like the look of the standard exhaust and it is a very very quiet ride but it wont fit to my center pipe (look at my progress thread). I think i'll have to change the center pipe to suite the back box or buy a S/s or K/r backbox to suite the pipe. I just want a nice tone that isn't as loud as that stupid crappy Sportex i had on there before.

I was expecting it to be noisy inside like my last car but it wasnt. I mean you can still hear it just! even when you floor it it still not loud.

Looks standard too tbf. Or if you wanted to be anal enough chop it back and get the proper Saxo tip welded on.

Yeah I know what you mean, I just fitted a supersprint centre section on my vts, I think its too loud and my Mrs thinks I'm having a midlife crisis. I've heard jetex are performance orientated but quiet?
I'm thinking about making my own twin box system using the s/s centre and jetex silencers, but I'll not bother till I've got the turbo conversion done next year.

I would love a s/s but i think they look cheap imo. The look like the pipe has just been cut. Where as the Kam Racing one is rolled out to make it look more like a feature.

That was bought from Kamracing 3yr ago lol. Mild steel ftl though.

I like the outrolled tip too but...

magnex are pretty quiet but have a nice note

Something like the Piper Cat Back system would work very well. You can choose the tailpipe you want and it uses two silencers (the backbox being a good sized 8" diameter). That should work even with the decat and performance manifold you have

I heard gather tape is good..
  12. #12
I can't justify that price for backbox i'm afraid. Well not for a french car.

    The tape is still holding

    Magnex is your answer.

how did you get it to sit like that? my kam racing one sits a little too low for my liking and its a high as i seem to be able to get it.

anyway a kam backbox will be nice mate. i have the straight cut stainless center section. nice and quite in the car it sounds like std below 2.5k and the tone totally changes after 2.5k when i first had it god i could see the fuel gague go down just to hear the noise. it's kinda like turbo whistle you'll keep getting it on boost just to hear it it's thats addictive

As said magnex is the answer, i have the cat back system as is quiet but with a slight burble, sounds good

Turbo sounding exhaust Kool. We'll see what happens nearer the time when i've got some money.

Cherry bomb would be funny to piss the neighbors off at 7am but i'd feel like a 17 year old twat with that blasting notes from the rear of my car. I don't want anything that will be too restrictive.

    More research is required.

Adjusted it at the join facing up on a angle then hung it.

I know what you mean haha i sit in low revs but that noise is awesome imo.

Esp when crusing in 3rd as you do then you come to turn off so drop to second. BAPAPAPAPAP POP Stealth and yes ive watched my fuel guage go down too. aha.

I'll be taking my supersprint centre pipe off I think, too noisy.
Regarding magnex, I had a back box kicking around and fitted it to my old legacy gt, killed the power badly, I cut it open to find it wasn't a straight through box. Tiny pipes inside offset to each other, very poor flow. Ripped all that out and welded it back up. Sounded much better and didn't strangle the engine.
    they're quiet but too restrictive.
