1.4 upgrades?..

  1. #1
okay this may seem abit n00by , but i have a 1.4 westcost, i do plan on an engine conversion at some point but not atm,
BUT is there much point re-mapping a 1.4? etc?...

what can be upgraded on a 1.4 to add extra power?
  2. #2
If you are planning to convert to a 16v anyway then just leave the 1.4 as it is for now.

yeah i am but i can get it re-mapped for free, and other little mods i could pick up cheap like upgraded mani and all that, would it make much of a difference?

flywheel lightened and balanced, ported and polished throttle nodie, 4-2-1 manifold and straight through exhaust are all little things that will see a few more ponies

You are pissing in the wind trying to get power out of a 1.4 75bhp engine mate unless you bolt a Jumbo Jet onto the front of it.

You could stick £500 into it and get full exhaust, enclosed induction kit, mani and a few other bits and likely see 5bhp, maybe 10bhp at best (I doubt it)

For a little more you could get a 16v engine which is 45bhp more instantly and will see better gains with the mods mentioned above.

cheers mate, is there much point getting it re-mapped?

Nah waste of time unless you fancy sticking a performance Cam in it, which again wouldn't be enough of a gain to justify the expense if you are getting an engine conversion done in the future anyway.

if its free then do it. just get an induction kit 1st and a de-cat maybe, there cheap and then get your free re-map induction and de-cat MAY help it more. but like i said free re-map then take it hands down. then tell all us how you got it free

A remap with just an induction kit and decat is going to make no difference, you need actual performance mods like a cam or a turbo setup for a remap to be benefitial.

I don't understand what you think a remap does?

Who is going to do the remap?

I though that only a few companies could map the standard ecu iirc?

my bad then, i though a remap would benefit even a standard car.

EDIT: by which i mean only a small noticeable amount

same here lol, ill defo be converting but dunno when yet, could be in 6 months time, could be sooner, but i was just wondering if upgrading the parts on the 1.4 would make a difference,

but question answered , may aswell just look for an engine haha

with a 1.4 all you'l get is slightly better throttle response. i have de-cat,induction,back box on a 1.4, and i wouldn't say its faster or improved bhp but its definitely more responsive on the throttle. nothing to go shouting about mind lol. most these things just add noise tho lol. get the conversion done tho and save money on mod parts you'd buy on the 1.4 for parts for the vts instead. mind you i suppose most parts you get for 1.4 would fit. say induction kit for example, the throttle body is slightly bigger on the vts than the 1.4 so all you need to do then is buy a different size elbow to fit the body and induction. exhaust you could do that from down pipe back, the manifold is different but if you just get downpipe back system then that can be added to the vts and then get the 4 branch for the vt. other parts like cams then obv they wont fit from the 1.4 so just save for the vts. weight reduction is a good thing in my book, get all sound deadening out that you can find.
bit of a ramble on there but ahh well lol

Save for a bigger engine unless you want to build a performance 1.4. xsi engines had a pretty decent cam and head, you can fit them to your block or just source one a 1400 one if you can find one cheaply
