Important! : Please help. VTR wont start, apparently no 12V in the ignition cable to ignition coil

    Hi guys,
Recently purchased a lovely little saxo VTR mk2 1999. and am having a problem with it.
When trying to start the car in the morning, usually it starts first time if not second, but when i have driven the car around for say 15 or 20 mins or however long, i'll use an instance, today i drove into a petrol station and filled up, after coming out the car wouldnt start. It seems the car starts better after its cooled down for maybe half an hour or longer.
I have been having this problem for a week now. and always seems like it wont start when the engine is warmer.
According to a mechanic, he has discovered that there is no 12V power going through the plug that connects to the ignition coil.
Does anybody know what this problem could be down to?? Please Help!!

if there was no power to the coil it wouldn't start, full stop. what symptoms are you getting when you try to start it again? any noises?

Try the ignition relay under the ecu.

Well i had an aa mechanic look at it and he tested inside the plug and said that there was no 12V going through that cable.

When trying to start it cranks over but just will not fire up.

According to the mechanic its not the crank sensor as the dials are working in the car, i dont know how true this is?? He seemed to think it could possibly be a relay but wasnt entirely sure

sounds like fueling, an easy way to check the 'coil and spark' is drive it about and stop and see if it starts agen if it doesnt whip a plug out and put it back in the HT lead and touch the thread onto an earthed area (metal rocker cover usually works well) dont touch the plug hold the rubber lead and get your mate to crank it over youll see the spark appear (or not) and you know if its spark or not.

Try the ignition relay under the ecu.

correct me if im wrong but this is the same block with the fuel pump relay in it as well?? definately could be that...

    Could be immobiliser problems?

Sounds like crank sensor same happened on my rallye. But it seemed the opposite with mine. I had to bump start it from cold as it would not start but once it was warm it would sometimes start alright. Fairly cheap part to buy from any auto factors

Oh and my dials still worked when crank sensor went

Its probably worth pointing out that with just the ignition on the coil wont have any power, its just on a quick prime it powers up and when the engine is turning over/running. Im not sure if your mecahnic is expecting to have a switched live..
