1.1 Engine swap help!

  1. #1
My engine has come to the end of it's time,
(piston rings have gone) and I've been advised to swap the engine instead of fixing it.

After much deliberation I've decided to put another 1.1 engine in, mainly insurance costs and would like to get some more knowledge about engine swaps Before I jump in at the deep end.

My main problem is finding an engine to swap it with. I have a 1996 1.1 Sx SPI single plug ecu,

Will any single plug 1.1 spi swap straight in? Will I need to swap anything else?

I've just had the water pump, tensioner, belt and all gaskets on the head changed (Courtesy of mandyslover70 top bloke really helpful and knows his stuff =]) should I just swap this over to the new engine?

Also after any hints and tips for the swap, anything I should do at the same time?

yes another single plug 1.1 spi engine is a straight swap. if your handy with tools then you could swap your new parts on to the next engine.

hint/tip - get the correct engine

chap, i've just been offered an accident damaged P reg 1.1, still runs and drives, i offered him scrap money as its not the most profitable car in the world for me but he declined my genorous offer lol, i'll text you his number later if you want it as a cheap way of getting an engine? thought you could rob any spares you need, maybe sell a few on and draw some cash back to cover costs?

gave him a call the engine mileage is quite high 98k odd he says, was really looking for as low as possible to make the engine swap as beneficial as possible =].

Might try nab it off him though want the doors and some other bits and bobs, offered him 130 without the wheels (he's just spent £100 on these and they are no use to me 13" 3 stud Booo!)

Let me know if anything else comes up =] back to eBay for now.
