Engine Conversion Options

  1. #1
Was wondering if there was some guides to different engine conversions. I have a MkII VTR but has blown it up, so wondering what engines (other than VTS) that can be considered. I may go down the VTS route, but was wondering if there are any reccomeneded engines ( near 150 - 160bhp)

Any guides or what not would be massivlely appreciated so i can look into it.

    Cheers Ryan

Most people will tell you that the best engine to upgrade to is the VTS.

With other larger engines comes more cost and more weight so counteracts any benefit.

ok, just im basically looking to have a VTR 16v or what ver it be, just i want it to sit with clio 182s, mini coops supercharged, etc etc, what power would i need from a vts engine to do that, 140bhp ish and stripped out?

obviously i could turbo a vtr lump or something, but im sure that would be quite expensive wouldn't it

16v with a full exhaust, manifold, cam and remap should see you 150bhp.

The clio generally don't put out the 182 they claim so a cammed 16v should be about the same power.

A cheap low boost turbo conversion could be done for a grand (or maybe cheaper) if you source 2nd hand parts and fit it yourself, otherwise you are looking at more.

your looking over £4000 to have a healphy turbo vtr with 200+ bhp

You will get the most for your money with a VTS conversion and a few mods like exhaust & a cam. The turbo route will cost alot.

Low blow turbo vtr on 10 psi can be don't for 1500 and be reliable as fuck, will leave 182s for fun

Try fittin another engine for that price

Whats the point in turboing a vtr when you could turno a vts for a little more

yes been done lots, theres even a twin gti 6 conversion kicking about, by no means would even a single be cheap unless your handy at fab work

I think the double was done by pug performance. Be an awesome engine to have in there if it was simple.

theres a 106 with a coupe v6 in it not quite finished but it gives you a idea of what can be done agreed fab work would be ridiculously and proberly turbo a vts for less and leave the v6

well i got a fuc ked vtr engine at moment, which is gonna have to be replaced. was considering getting another vtr as have a super sprint manifold and system i had't fitted, but may just sell them and use it to go towards a vts conversion then. ( I assume the manifold wouldn't fit if it was for my MkII vtr would it)? also is there any guides to the vtr 16v conversion?

Would a C2 VTS 2005 engine fit into a saxo easily? incl ecu gearbox etc
  16. #16
V6 in a saxo now I would like to see that. I'm thinking 16v with a turbo but might just stay if the 8v and turbo cheaper I guess

£4000 thats alot of money? you gonna be buying brand new bits and getting a mechanic to fit it all and do it??

406 v6 arnt that heavy. we had one at work that was an auto with ac and it weighted 1300kg and they are a 3.0 6 210bhp , it will still be a crazy power to weight ratio and the torque crazy.

We put one of the V6 engines in a stripped 206. I wouldnt waste my time putting it in a saxo tbh, i rekon the bulkhead would need modifying.

Weve also put a gti-6 into a 106 too. Again personally i wouldnt bother with this.

As everyones said if you want a different engine and want a cheap enough conversion then 16v is the way forward. But like blackie said if you home brew a turbo kit for your 8v then thats the most power for your money thats possible in my opinion theres no other way. Mine was stupidly cheap to go from 60 to 150bhp but thats with trade prices no labour practically a free 16v conversion and other free shiz.

Money no option i would love to throw either a 1.8 20vt or one form of a Vaux LET.

The saxo with the gti 6 waste of time? Im unsure if a 16v or turbo for my vtr

A decent cammed 16v will keep up with a 182
