performace manifold gasket

  1. #1
    Just a quick question..

I have a vts with a stainless steel raceland manifold with a new standard gasket. And was wondering if theres a thicker or racing one to reduce the blowing. Checked the usual sites like kam racing and the search button but can't find anything.. anyone know of a company that makes them?

    Thanks

P.s all the bolts are done up tight lol

Shouldn't blow if it's sealed correctly

Always found genuine manifold gaskets to be the best

steel gaskets should be used. is the standard gasket steel?

if it is and you have bolted it up tight the mani is warped.

Yes its a steel gasket and I got it from Citroën. Guess that's the only gasket available then..

hmm. undo the mani and use a steel rule on the flange to see if its warped.

    how bad does it blow?

    gaskit papers always good....

as said though manifold could be warpped due to people using thin flangles and when tig welding them the heat can make them warp, either get it machined flat or you could use to gaskits.

I have a raceland with a standard Citroen gasket and it doesn't blow so I would suggest there is an underlying issue with yours.

i had a standard gasket on with my raceland mani and it was blowing.

i replaced with a brand new standard gasket and it stoppedstraight away.

could be just the raised parts on the gasket that help form the seal have been squashed flat on yours like mine did.

just get a brand new one or use maybe 2 or 3, that should definately stop the blowing, if not then your manifold is warped or something.

Manifold gaskets are cheap from Citroen anyway, think mine was £3 something.

not always cheap. on the 16v engines there is three different types of gasket depending on year, all with different prices. mine is the £20 one

    shit.

I just ordered one off ebay for mine thinking all vts gaskets would be the same?

you dont have to specify the year when buying the manifold so presumed the gasket would be the same?

according to both citroen and a few different motor factors, they are all the same. only reason citroen charge £20 is because they sell it with bolts, washers, springs etc

Think you mean the gasket between the down pipe and the centre which also needs the fitting kit including springs, bolts and washers.

Op means the gasket between the manifold and the head...I think. Mine was £3 something from Citroen.

    ignore me

OP send me your model and year and I will get you the Citroen part number and their price.

i was meaning the gasket between the manifold and the head. there is 3 types of gasket, single gaskets for each port, a double gasket which obviously only covers two and the final one goes over all four ports. the one i have was the one that covers all four ports which cost £20 and it was for gasket only

the one piece one ,which is s/s is only type cit do for vts
-neve had a problem always reuse them --too expensive to change everytime
more liey to be a mnaifold problem than a gasket --presuming you have it all clean and are tightening it up correctly
I have seen after amrket manifold have too long a bottom edge and if head has been skimmed the block sticks out past the head --so it can sit on a lip if bottom flange is too long
