I've never seen a before/after with just a BTB manifold stuffed in mate so I can't really comment. I'm adverse to putting a 4-1 manifold on any moderately tuned saxo engine though. Tuning-wise, a 4-1 starts working it's magic high up the rev range (hence why you seem them almost exclusively on motorbike engines), in theory you might get a fex extra hp's at peak on the saxo but it's not optimal because it of the rev limit, mid range will very likely suffer. A 4-2-1 offers a better spread across the rev range, but unlikely to give you as much increase at peak.
If you had a 9k race engine then yeah a 4-1 would be ideal. Of course this is all assuming the manifold have perfect welds and the engine is working perfectly.
In a nut shell...
4-1 might have a higher peak hp on a moderately tuned saxo, ideal for pub talk
4-2-1 will make it quicker in the real world.
