Mk2 Vtr engine in Mk1

  1. #1
Iv tried searching already but cant find exactly what im looking for.

Iv got two saxos, a mk1 and mk2 vtr. The engines gone in the mk1 and im looking to put the mk2 engine in as the shell isnt great.

    1. Mounts will be the same i imagine?
    2. Gearbox, i could use the Mk1 box?
    3. The Mk2 is a 03 plate, therefore a 3 plug ecu. Could i use the loom and ecu from the mk2 to save me chopping wires?
4.Immobiliser, will this cause any problems? and are the clocks plug and play because i like the colour of the MK2 ones better?

    Thanks in advance!

mounts and gearboxes are the same, loom wise you can use the three plug loom/ecu and either cut the multi plug off the loom and wire the single plug on tot he three plug loom, or fit the interior loom out of the mk2, which should mean the engine loom will be plug and play

if you go for the second option and fit the mk2 engine and interior loom then you will have to change the dials to the mk2 ones, mk2 dials arent plug and play in a mk1 they have to be wired in

immobiliser- you can just do away with it and unlock the ecu on the mk2 engine before you remove it or you can transfer all the parts you need to keep the imobilsier over from the mk2 to the mk1 ie immobiliser box, keys, ignitions barrels, pick up ring etc

    Thanks for the reply.

Which option do you think is easiest? Im thinking of fitting the mk2 interior loom as i prefer the clocks and they read the true engine mileage. You mean even with a mk2 interior loom i still need to wire in the clocks?

Also just to complicate things the mk1 has a immobiliser keyfob. That is standard? i imagine this will become redudant when the ecu is swapped over from the mk2?

The mk2 has a thatcham immobiliser fitted any ideas if this will cause problems?

yea just fit the mk2 interior loom then the clocks and engine should be plug and play however id get conformation on this as its something ive never done.

afraid i don't have a clue about aftermarket immobilsers, but just thinking about it as you have the donor car there, i would have thought if you swapped everything over then you could still use the thatcham immobiliser on the mk1, im not sure how they are wired in but surely if the engine and interior loom is swapped over then the thatcham immobiliser will still be in the mass of wires when its fitted in to the mk2 and as long as you use the keys etc from the mk2 then everything should be fine

also this means you will want to swap all the key barrels from the mk2 on to the mk1 so you only use one key for all the locks

Thanks for your advice. Yeah think il basically move everything over to the mk1

Can u not just put the mk1 loom n inlet on the mk2?
