Manifold Wrapped

  1. #1
Looking for abit of advice really. I've took my manifold off my mk2 vtr today ready to fit a 4-1 job. I was wondering am i going to need to heat wrap the manifold?

Just becuase the 4-1 doesn't have the holes for the top & side heat shields, so i'm worried about it melting something. Also i have a raceland style induction that i want to fit, but will the heat melt it?

    Thanks

Race land sometimes melt a bit

    Mani will be fine,

If worried about the filter just fit some reflective tape to the bottom, bout £4 from halfrauds, Ali foil stuff

if its off ready to go then you may aswell wrap it.

helps keep engine bay temps down and increases efficiency of gas flow,

If you do wrap it use good quality wrap and then seal it with the correct sealant

i've not got any wrap atm money is sort of tight, but as said i don't want bits on the engine to melt. Most worried about the bit at the side of the manifold where the shield has been removed from

you mean the altenator heat shield?

mines missing too, has been for like 2 years, hasnt done any harm mate

Wrap should always be treated once installed with a high temp silicone spray

This helps to stop fluids from soaking in to wrap and causing a fire Risk

I'm sure some one on here had an engine fire caused by oil soaking the wrap and combusting

Should seal it, but tbh if oil squirts on the Mani it doesn't need wrap it will still burst into flames

Difference is on a non wrapped Manifold if oil gets on to the manifold it just burns off, makes s bit if smoke but that gives you chance to stop and hopefully catch it before it gets out of hand
Where as the wrap acts as something to burn and so makes things a lot worse

I did mine but personally wouldn't bother next time for the simple reason as I dont think it makes that much of a benefit, at least where under bonnet temperatures are concerned. This on my very midly modified 8v rallye engine
