Engine Disaster...

Well I went to change the head gasket earlier as there was an oil leak from the front by the alternator and some oil in the coolant...

Ohhh I wish I hadn't pulled the head off..... More than that I wish I hadn't brought the car thankfully it was cheap though!

Should have taken pictures but didn't get the time I wonder how long it's only had water in the cooling system for, water jackets around the liners were covered in a film of rust! The head gasket had holes through it where the water jackets are which resulted in a nice amount of pitting on the head, looks like it's had a big skim before as there isn't much material left to take off so I just stuck it all back together the best I could and see how long it lasts lol

    what engine size?
  4. #4
    ouch that sucks balls

Only a 1.4 8v but still quite annoying managed to clean the head up well enough that it should last quite a while.

Just wish people would realise the coolant does more than stop it from freezing

    get some pics!

I can't get pictures the head is back on the engine now
  8. #8
did you get the head skimmed?
  9. #9
Nope not much there left to be skimmed I'm guessing it's overheated before due to the radiator fan switch not working and was skimmed then....

Basically it needs a replacement head or swap the engine

You could probably pickup a 2nd hand 1.4 for under £100 and just change the whole lot.

Yea that's what I was thinking I'll just leave it for now and see how long it lasts..... or it might end up rebuilding a replacement engine
