safe rev limit on stock internals

what would you lot say was a safe rev limit for a vtr on stock rods and pistons

was gonna rev it to 8k but im not too sure now as i think itll just throw a rod out the front of the block

tempted to buy some ARP rod bolts..but now its eaten a valve im not sure i want to waste any more money on this engine.. for the possible weakend rod on cylinder 3..(the one that ate the valve)..we have a little ding in the piston which i wouldnt bat an eyelid over on a normal car..but being as though its boosted it changes things slightly!!

it will get a forged lump but not yet..

the damage is minor..ish but still could have weakend the rod.

My boosted GTI is limited to 7250. I'd reccomend fitting ARP bolts, don't need to cost much

16v run different rods to 8valves

I'm half tempted to get rod bolts.. But not fully sure I should on this engi e

Ahh didn't see it was a VTR.

What's your hesitation with rod bolts? Money?

Thought the standard bottom ends could take 9000 (from what i've read atleast)

Wouldn't the turbo be the limiting factor anyway?

9k, It can pretend its a honda.

Seriously though i'd just goto 7k, not that i really know what the effect of the damaged piston could do. Slightly above standard and if your planning on going forged anyway you'll want to raise it up more then anyway.

Green valve springs fitted and set it to 8k. I would!

It's a lot more likely to blow now it's took jab or 2 to the piston having already suffered a year of abuse

I'm not sure mate, 8k is quite a lot of revs.. I know lots run the 16vs up to 8k and so, but these use a slightly diff rod and Gudgeon pin

Yeah to an extent, but I'll going for a new turbo soon that should have power to the red line at or near 8k

I think I read somewhere once that the 8v's are good up to about 6750k, I'd of thought anything over that you would be running a bit of a risk

That's a roller rocker engine, IMO you'd be pushing you luck at that, I dropped a valve with stock rev limit lol

ax GTI runs 7200 rev limit as standard

Matey boy who used to run puma race engines said the 8 valve bottom end is pretty bullet proof. Revving to 8k with decent rod bolts.
If it was mine I'd chuck that one back together and run it sympathetically while building a rock solid bottom end up

As Mart says. I'll be running my vtr block on GTi management so 7200 limit

The standard rallye/xsi could do 7200 anyway with the green valve springs in it. I wouldnt worry too much about going up to 8 or just under

my 8v engine with stage 2 p&p abd bigger valves, uprated springs and lifters at 7500 but i believe theyre ok to run 8k as i had a mate that ran 8k on a classic mini
