33mpg combined 1.1 mpi

  1. #1
A mix of town driving for the 1st 150 miles and motorway / combined for the other 250 so doing about 400 miles to a tank, would've thought it would get a bit better than this ?
I have changed plugs, oil, filters (air, oil and fuel ), gearbox oil.
Is there anything else to check / do it was rarely taken over 4000rpm

how big is your tank ??? 400 miles a tank is good if yours is the same size as mine ????

Yes i believe all saxo's are 50 plus 5 reserve, i was basing it on 400 miles to 55 litres.

Perhaps i was being a bit harsh ; it was on the red light for a while eating about half way into the reserve so checking into it seems more like 400 miles to 53 litres which is about 34.5mpg but still ....
maybe i just expect too much economy old generation engine.

Is pretty shit for a 1.1..

    I get 30-35mpg in the 16v.. 100% town or B-road blasts.

Yep, i think it should do 40mpg or thereabouts given my driving style, perhaps I am changing up too early although it doesn't seem to be struggling

I thought Saxo's had a 45 litre tank total including reserve?

42.2 is not bad, could be improved though.

Yep, a lot of short journeys for the 1st 150 miles on that tank are myself work back, other half work back.
I am keen to improve it still further if possible though - the car had been standing barely used for the last 2 years so when i 1st got it put a shot of redex in.

Is there anything to be gained by using double the recommended dose of redex every once in a while?

even with short journeys in my old 1.1 mpi I was getting mid 40s with ease mixed driving to I'm getting around 32/33mpg atm in the vtr turbo but I fill the tank right up
