S1 xsi to 16v conversion

  1. #1
Ok done some reading up on doing this conversion as i may have a 106 xsi lined up!

So from what i can gather if i have an early 106 gti conversion its basically plug and play. But a saxo set up is different and a 3 plug set up is just a nightmare! So i would need to splice the xsi and saxo loom together....or send it off to French Sport Tuning to get done.

But i have the single plug loom and ecu from my W reg saxo vts. Would that work?

Everything else conversion wise is self explanatory (shafts and mounts wise)

    Any help please?

if you use a gti loom you wont need to splice

you need to make up looms to fit 16v's in to s1 106's theres loads of info on the rallye reg about it their fuse boxes and fuel cut off switches are all different there isnt a loom which makes it plug and play

So technically im better off sending away my 2000 saxo loom and the xsi loom, to get done!?

W reg looms are only really ok for w reg cars they have 2 plugs that go to the engine bay fuse box , it would be easier and cheaper to just get the gti loom.

ive just siad there isnt a loom which will make it plug and play so having a gti one will make no difference my house mate has done a 16v conversion on both a 1.4 and a 1.6 xsi, he made his first loom up him self and he bought a pre made loom for his 1.6 the looms are compeltely different in a s1 106

maxwell if you dont know what your doing leave it to the pros is my advise also if you get one made up it will look nice and neat

but like i said there is a whole section on the rallye reg on 16v'ing xsi's and rallyes or any s1 106 for that matter im sure its all in there

The only thing im not sure about is the loom. As i have been pointing out - am i better getting the two looms spliced because i know its not plug and play!! My chum is 16v'ing a s1 rallye....but its on an emerald and bodies...so loom will be different anyway!

Just wish i hada stuck at turboing my old vts!

my last message wasnt aimed at you btw, i really dont know where to start with s1 106 looms compleltely out of my comfort zone lol how much are they charging to do a loom?

now and again 16v s1 looms pop up on the rallye reg for sale between £50-100 but yea you would splice the two together but after that im lost

Supposedly "French Sport Tuning" can splice the looms for £100. And as for a neat finish....guy next door to my friends unit, is a northern ireland distributor for "Flexicon" who supply electrical conduit

I done the entire engine bay of my fiesta rs turbo with the stuff! So thats no issue. Im just wanting to have as little hassle as possible otherwise. But i know about the top engine mount mod, top rad hose etc!

What you said is what you need doing, you need the loom ends from the original engine splicing onto the 16v loom. You will need to wire the fan switch in also but thats simple. £100 is an ok price

i thought it was harder than that as i dont htink they have fuel cut off switchers and if you look at lukes bay he has one medium sized fuse box and we have one big one and one small one

Lukes loom is just spliced onto a 106 plug end with the 4 extra wires which im sure are fan related and possibly something else. Cut off is engine loom based it dosent go into the chassis loom.

Oh actually thinking about the colors ones a alt light and ones either the perm live to coilpack/injectors/vss or the one to the main relay

Bump up for an old question!

I need as much info and contacts (for the engine loom splicing in particilar) as possible for doing this conversion, as i have actually bought the 106 xsi i mentioned in post #1.

what else do you need to know?

looms will need splicing, drivers mount will need adjusting, that is basically about it to a conversion.

many people 'apparently' find that the fuel pump doesn't flow enough, so may find that a gti fuel pump needs fitting

if you pm tom5190 and send him your loom if he isnt too busy im sure he can do it for you, hes done plenty of looms for conversions, including his owm loom is a spliced single plug loom in his three plug car

    I did my own...

    1994 1.4 xsi / 1997 gti

Had to splice gti loom onto xsi plug. Theres afew wires have no where to go.. Imobiliser wires and comms port.

Imobiliser wires i insulated and left inside the loom.. Comms port i fitted one from a gti inside the engine bay.

Also, depending on whever you want to use a gti speedo or not you will need to run a wire from the speed sensor to the dash to run the speedo
