using more fuel than normal any checks i can do?

Hi guys recently iv'e noticed im using more fuel than normal, i apprishiate fuel prices are higher now and that would contribute to how much is in the tank for your money but an example is 3 days ago i put £20 in which got me roughly 14ltr and on the dial that put me to just over half a tank. Three days on and baring in mind i only really drive to work and back which is approx 30min drive away and occationally to my town and back im down to just under a quarter. The needle also has a habit sometimes were when accelerating lightly or crusing at 30 will drag the needle down more than if crusing at 70! in fact crusing at 70 the needle gradually moved back up lol. So apart from the usual checks which im going to do is check the backbox and exhaust pipe isnt blowing check the mani connections as i put a 4-2-1 on earlier and couldnt fit the last two bolts in but whenfeeling over the gaps i cant feel no fumes escape. Pumped up the tires, had a engine service about a month back with full oil flush out and refilled with top grade oil and new fuel filter.

What over things can i check for?

    Thanks guys

    Check the lambda sensors

Check MAF sencer on the bulkhead near drivers side strut. or the rubber pipe that connects it to the manifold

    manic

Take your top lambda sensor off if its a sooty black colour then your overfueling.

You need to work out how many miles you are getting to X amount of litres to calculate the MPG. Only then can you work out if you have an issue e.g. overfueling.

Thanks guys so let it run right down on fuel then fuel up to get a better measurment. Af for lamba sensor ive just had one replaced about 4 months ago. ill still check it but but dout it is. also about 4 months ago i used a full battle of redx to clear the system.

Ill do then test first once im down to empty and as soon as ive done it will post back to you.

i think the best way to measure fuel is to brim it (1click) use it for a hundred miles or so and them brim it again (also 1 click). that way you get a more accurate reading rather than guessing where the line is on the fuel guage.

ok so did test and based on £20 of fuel which was priced at £1.31 per ltr giving me approx 15.26ltr i got 172.6 on the spedo dials. based the test on filling from empty and got just over half a tank and the miles set back to 0 streight after refuel.

So is that ok or worth looking into?

    Thanks

our real-world MPG average is 51.75, covering 172.6 miles using 3.34 gallons of fuel.

Either your car is very very good on fuel or you didn't fill it up from empty...my diesel Saab does around 55mpg at 62mph on cruise control over 40 miles...

I would suggest (as someone else has) filling your tank to the brim, then driving for 100 miles, then filling it again and take the amount of litres put in the second time and work out the mpg from that, then you'll get a true figure, and it would be best to do this a few times. But don't drive any differently, you'll only be lying to yourself...

are you enjoying the noise if your new manifold setup and accelerating harder?

sounds silly but people dont realise they do it
i didnt in my 106 till i found myself doing it in the skoda and being like awww no noise

    Sound's like normal fuel consumption..

The in tank float / gauge might of come loose, hence why it 'went up' when going 70mph.

Stop watching the gauge so much

Lol, don't worry about it man, mine is random also... The faster I go the more fuel I have looll
