'Banging' noise coming from drivers side area.

   It has recently developed a 'Thudding' noise that happens on a bumpy road (Normal A & B Roads) or breaking/ accelerating hard. Its coming from what I guess is the suspension area on the drivers side.
   
   The only way to describe the noise is it sounds like my lower strut brace is rattling on my centre pipe, even though its not and its well clear.
   
   Without having to put the car on bricks, to jack it up and take the wheel off. Does anyone have any idea what could it be. I'm suspecting a unseated spring or a worn/ damaged bush.

   common for the bolt to break and let the engine drop
