size decomp plate?

  1. #1
installed gt17 turbo kit with the bandaide mf2 and 5th injector until i have enough money for bigger injectors and a remap. this is fitted to my saxo vtr 8valve. i think compression ratio is 10:1 not 100% sure on that. i need a decompression plate but unsure of what thickness i will need? and the decompression plate will run by its self not in between two head gaskets due to most people saying that cheap crappy way of doing things! how much are we talking about for a decomp plate and were from. i am unsure what what thickness to get? i will be running on standard internals and with the decomp plate be running 8-10 psi? if u need any other info let know cheers

    cheers people

Ring ferriday engineering - they will talk you through what size you want for what ratio, they can do the math for you, and will also discuss options for headgaskets etc.

You can use a decomp with no headgasket, but it is dependant on what material the decomp is made from

My 2mm is still for sale
  4. #4
Yea I think I may give them a ring and see what they say! And blackie are you jus running the decomp plate alone with no head gaskets?
  5. #5
If so how much u want?
  6. #6
I ran it with a gasket, id like £55 delivered, it cost me £130.50
  7. #7
You say you ran it with a gasket! What either side of the decomp plate? Condition ?
  8. #8
No just between the decomp and the block, between the head I used Curil high sealant

    It's used condition
  9. #9
i think used states the obvious lool! and whats the decomp made of?
  10. #10
    Aluminium,

Yeah lol, no other way of describing it really, it is what it is mate, done 5k in my car
  11. #11
I've got a new ferriday one and unopened sealant forsale if andys used one doesn't take your fancy
  12. #12
How much wat what thickness? And made of?
  13. #13
100 posted mate its 2mm made of the same stuffs andys is, ferriday only use alloy as far as I'm aware which is good as it keeps the same material together when bonding it to the head
  14. #14
Ferriday will do copper etc as well

But they will be very expensive lol
  15. #15
Head gasket down 1st then the sealent then the decomp plate right? And why is urs 45 quid more than blackies decomp plate?
  16. #16
Don't answer that lool! Urs is brand new with sealant haha! Sorry my bad!
  17. #17
Use the sealant between gasket n decomp plate? On the area's where the oil n water ports aren't yea? Do u have to use sealant on top of decomp plate too?
  18. #18
No it's block, gasket, plate, sealant all over in a thin layer, head

That's if the plate is made from aluminium alloy like mine and prob blackie's as well
  19. #19
Yeah the paste is to bond the decomp to the head, the gasket will seal itself against the other side of the decomp
  20. #20
Okay cheers guys and 1 last thing if I was to buy ur decomp plate blackie they will be fine to reuse again won't they? Do u have the right sealant for it? If so ill buy both decomp plate plus sealant if u have any enit! And I take it I jus get another head gasket as normal for my car to run along with decomp plate yea? Did u say 55 quid delivered blackie?
  21. #21
Needs a bit of a clean but don't see why it couldn't be used again

The paste that I had (Ferriday supplies) is called Curil, I ran out but ebay etc sell, there's a few diff kinds of sealant you can use

And yeah £55 delivered, I paid £130 lol
  22. #22
If I'm going to buy it I need to know for definate if the decomp plate is good to be reused haha! And clean up? Fair enough ill sort out the money tonight enit! Need it by friday at the latest going on holiday and mates doing it for me enit
  23. #23
yes they can be reused, will need to scrape off bits of headgasket and sealant i expect, nothing major
  24. #24
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/vie...id=89320723735 is this the stuff I need?

I don't know who is telling you these things but a decomp plate is as much a botch as stacking gaskets. Some people would argue stacking gaskets is a better way to go. All i will say is back in the good old days of the pioneering saxo turbo tuners twin gaskets was a common way to lower compensation even on engines far wilder then yours. The old DP cars where insainly quick and ran twin gaskets for many many years.
  26. #26
so what ur saying is just go and buy two head gaskets from allparts or somewhere like that? if i did that would i still need sealant tho?
  27. #27
As long as the gaskets are multi layer steel ones yes
  28. #28
in the end i brought the decomp plate off blackie. do i need to torque the head down differently ?
  29. #29
    no standard torque settings

the copper ones are very rare, mine was the 1st ferriday one ever made for the TU engine and its copper, they dont do them now in copper as the material cost has gone through the roof but the copper ones can be used instead of a gasket
  30. #30
coppers ones can only be used once though cant they? as they squash to the head?
  31. #31
nope, used mine a few times

not for a while mind although im tempted to use it now as a gasket instead of an MLS one
  32. #32
    interesting,

saying that the TU head doesn torque down much anyway does it.
  33. #33
jus brought bosch 315cc injectors from a rs turbo hope these will fit my rail haha.
