Vtr cams

Ok so I've had a search about, plenty of threads, none really answering my question, in order to cam my vtr, do I just need to purchase the camshafts, or are they a lot more parts involved, I read about needing a new headgasket and people replacing the water pumps and timing belt ect, my main two questions really are.

A)What sort of power gains should I look at from a stock mk2 vtr.
    B) What price will I be looking at all together including the cams, new ecu and map and fitting ect

Depends on how old your engine is and how wild the cam is your after. But a low mile engine with a mild cam and you could do it with just a cam and a head gasket set, oil and coolant. Though most would say you may as well do the cam belt at the same time and you are best to fit new rockers as well and new seating fork. If its a wild cam things can get more complicated.

A new ECU will not be cheap most just get there stock ECU remapped. As for up to date prices sorry im way out the loop on that one.

Power depends on how wild a cam and well tuned with other mods you have or will have. Top end I'd say max 120-130 for a street drivable and 140 max for a very well tuned high compression motor with a lot of work
If you planning to stay naturally aspirated move onto 16v conversion for sure.

Price wise if you go the whole shop route your looking £1k plus if your capable you can lose a lot of the labour of doing the cam and just need tuning prolly save £400

Tbh, 16v'sm wouldnt happen, for all the labour costs ect I may as well buy a vts, probably next year, might have a look at cams tbh.

I was going to cam my vtr, once i weighed up the costs a vts conversion was cheaper so i did that. The remap for the vtr alone would have cost more than my whole conversion.

Bear in mind if you want anywhere near 120bhp you'll need a full exhaust and manifold and a decent filter as well at the cam and remap.

    Based on Kams prices
    Ph3 newman cam is £188
    Janspeed mani £192
    System £255
    Simota enclosed induction kit £105
Remap £200(ish? Been a while since I was on the saxo scene)

Obviously you can get everything for less second hand and sub in other things, but that's about a grand to get to vts's power not counting any labour to fit parts.

I got a vts's engine for £300, £100 on various bits, fitted it in a weeks worth of evenings, sold vtr engine for £100, 120bhp

I'm thinking about doing the cams on my vtr along with the other stuff I've thought about changing for a vts engine but I've got to say I love the little 8v don't know why but I've had 16v in the past and prefer the 8 just my opinion

Odd that, the only difference is the 8v is slower
