raising the rev limit? who? what? where?

  1. #1
hi this weekend i competed in my 1st ever hillclimb race and altho i did well id like to do better my main grumble is that my car dosnt rev high enough and i would like to hold out the gears longer.
so ive decided the easiest way of doing this is to just raise the rev limit, but who can do it?
whats the highest you can safely go?
    and what are the costs?

    the cars a 106 with a 2002 vtr engine 3 plug ecu

    thanks

    What gearbox you using?

If you drive the same hillclimb all the time you might be able to work out that you could get a much shorter gearbox, so that you are in the next gear up but in the power range and with more revs to go, rather than extending the rev limit and driving a long geared box and then being past the power band high up on the revs.

ChipWizards can do stuff with triple plugs anyway.

its just a 1.1 box but it just feels like im on the limit to close to every corner to go up to third as it would mean changing up to change back down again and thats all time off the throttle. its not so much for long streights but as its short bursts there was to much room to hit the limit in 2nd but not enough room to go into 3rd if you get me.
just feels like if i had a extra 500-750rpm more i could save alot of time and be on the throttle more

I get you. Chipwizards used to be the only place that could remap a triple plug ECU.

If you contact those random, remap places they might be able to just extend the rev limit, but if not then chipwizards can for sure

Wouldn't reccomend raising the limit without at least changing the valve springs, the newer engines had shit springs.. I fell foul of that when my car dropped a valve.. I was on standard rev limit as well

Why not fit a black top head? They don't mind revving higher, better springs and no roller rockers

i have blacktop springs in already from a citroen zx engine

    should be haha
id like to go omex soon and map in my cams, breather mods and raise the rev limit which should add a bit of extra grunt. but we'll see

Depending on the cost of raising the limit I reckon your money could possibly be better spent fitting an s1 rallye box perhaps? They're really short geared so you'd be in 3rd but in the right bit of the power. I find VTRs already hate being revved never mind further lol.

true enough mate but MA boxes are weak as foook so id rather replace a 1.1 box a few times at £40 a go rather than replacing rallye boxes at £200 a go haha atleast the rev limit should be fairly reliable and keep costs down in the future

cant you fit an s2 rallye ecu and loom? engines are similar and you'll get a higher rev limit as standard using that ecu. plus its going into a 106 so hopefully no loom problems I'd guess

in that case, you might aswell have it sorted it when you map your cams?

Cam can raise the limit to 7.8k.
