New cam No power!

    Just put a piper fast cam in my vtr,
    adjusted all tappets to 0.2mm and 0.25 mm - from piper - and its still a little noisey.

    But the main thing, theres a slight increase in bottom end but a loss of top end. And it bogs down with anything over 50% throttle.
    Is this just due to need to be advanced or retarded on ther vernier pulley? thats currently set at 0' as i have no idea

    sounds like its your timing matey, get that set up and remaped and you should see a decent increase.

    That said a before wont really show very much as its got about as much power as a 1.1 at the mo

    I know, but it will still be interesting to see. and you'll know exactly how much difference a remap and setup has made

    No he won't.. As its not on standard timing now

    So has less power then a standard engine

    Correct. But he will see what difference has been made.
    If your car was running badly, and you took it for a remap... Wouldnt you like to see what difference was made?

    Its currently on standard timing, the belt went on using all my marks from when i took the standard cam out.
    I'm not getting it mapped, just having the vernier pulley/timing set up so it'll run. Ive been lead to believe that with this cam I will get most of the benefits without a remap.

    If its at standard timing marks it should be a little lumpy on idle but still make a bit of power. What duration/spec is the cams as I'm not familiar with it

    bogs down over 50% throttle --thats not cam timing --something else you have done
    if engine was pinned whne cam fitted onstd makrs it will be very close to where it should be

    Its a Piper fast road 270 cam.

    disconnected the ecu and let it turn over for a few seconds then put everything back, and now seems alright up to 5.5k, slight increase in power over standard.

    I fitted my ph3's to my R on standard marks and it was flat as a fart anything over 3k, if I opened it up it was shit,

    Warmed it up and started doing back to back runs up the straight road just down from my house, adjusting the timing up till I get best results and it was perfect

    If its 270 it should be fine, my rallye cam is that spec and theres no loss of power etc and thats on VTR injection setup

    Is that with the vernier pulley?

    If you have time could you give a bit more detail on how exactly you where changing the timing and by what amounts?

    ive spoken to Piper and have been told

    "With the cam belt installed and cam set to standard timing, rotate the crank forward 114 degrees, with the crank in this position, you want to slacken the 3 pulley bolts and get the camshaft to sit so that it is opening no.1 cylinder inlet valve fully."

    My understanding of this is to have the degree wheel on the crank, and spin the crank clockwise by 114? which sets the crank at 114 ATDC?

    I understand the theory and am fairly confident on what im doing, just got to wait to get a degree wheel now!!!
