DIY Oil Catch Tank

  1. #1
Thought I'd post a lil guide/project as I couldn't find one when making up a catch tank.

Decided to go for a OCT for when I put S1 Inlet on but didn't want to spend £20+ on one (cos I'm a tight git)

So went to poundland and stocked up for the build:

    Aluminium drinks bottle
    Araldite
    Spreader
    Wire Wool
Couple hose fitting (already had them)

    So about £5-6 all in.

Grabbed the bottle and cut the bottom off (which is now the top so the screw cap is the drain):

(the bottle was all they had in the right size)

Then cut up the spreader and made a baffle out of it and araldited it in:

Don't know why I didn't drill the holes first as it would have been easier, but then drilled the holes for both inlet and outlet fittings:

    Inlet:

    Outlet:

Then decided to glue in a perforated baffle to stop wire wool (used to soak up oil etc) entering the outlet area:

Then glued the head back on (during):

    Primered up:

Will just end up spraying it satin black tmorrow probably. Hope it helps give a few ideas if people don't want to spend £20+ on a ebay catch tank.

Im not clued up on these things but the elbow you have put in has solder built in. Wont that affect anything when getting warm or contaminate anything?

I don't have a decent picture ATM, but the long black pipe below in the pic leads to a 1ltr coca cola bottle with a knife slash in

No everything it catches will be thrown away anyways and solder doesn't melt below 100 degrees.

If I was running spec like yours I wouldn't want a coke bottle I would be wanting to monitor everything going in and out of my engine.

It's only a very temporary thing though until I can get a real catch tank sorted.... no way I'm leaving it like that lol
