was considering putting an oil catch tank on my 1.1 but been told by one of my mates that it is impossible to do so ? just wondering if anyone has done it or seen this done ?
can you put an oil catch tank on a 1.1 engine ?

#2Your friend is a retard...
-
#4It can be done thought there is no real point.
-
#5Your engine uses oil, so yes. Its not hard to do but its pointless.
-
#6i fitted one, only becuase my piston rings are on there way out so all the oil gets pushed out and needs soem where to go lol
-
#8Your mate must lick windows. does the short bus pick him up in the mornings

#11i was thinking of putting one in my vtr... nothing wrong with car but for my local car show its all about the shiny bits haha!
are they easy enuff to fit? -
#12Why is every one saying that there no real benefit's?
Any oil and water vapour/condensation that is collected buy it was going to go into your engine so to me that is a benefit on its own. Especially on a car that isn't driven a lot so stops condensation build up in the rocker cover ect.
Seems to me not may people actually know what catch tanks are for.
Ps. most Ebay ones don't work because there is noting inside them for the oil/water to condensate on. -
#13ebay ones are crap, i have one but it serves a purpose, its going in the bin though as soon as my new bottom end is built up
you can modify the ebay ones to work ok with some mesh and a hose -
#14ok, so im guessing it can be done :L he told me it couldnt be done as it was 1.1
so this leads to the next question of fitment ?
-
#15an oil catch tank can be fitted to any saxo/engine with oil breathers, stab int eh dark here but guessing you connect it to the rocker cover breather so the oily air doesnt go back in to the inlet
-
#16Catch tank is a catch tank...
All you need is a hose pipe and a can. -
#17thats in reality all the cheap ebay ones are, the more expensive ones have material inside to conendse the oily air in to oil and air, the oil stays in the tank and the air comes out the out let usually via a breather filterQuote:Catch tank is a catch tank...

the cheap ebay one i have is as much use as a coke can lol the oily air goes in to the empty tank, has no where to condense so the oily air comes back out and covers the bottom of the bonnet in oil lol -
#18I think you have got your self confused. A engine with a normal wet sump like the Saxo runs in positive pressure in the crank case. The gasses in a standard engine are vented out in to the inlet and burnt off in the engine.Quote:Any oil and water vapour/condensation that is collected buy it was going to go into your engine so to me that is a benefit on its own. With highly tuned engines you get much higher pressure within the engine crank case and in so the system of simply burning off these gasses is not so desirable. So you can use a catch tank to separate much of the oil/fuel vapors before the gasses are burn in the engine.
Some race cars vent to the atmosphere and do not burnt in the engine. Often in these situations the catch tank is simply used to catch the oil/fuel from the gasses before it makes it way on to the track. -
#19So where would the catch tank hose run from, from the rocker cover where the breather pipe usually sits ?
-
#20I put some *scourer's in my mocal one and its down the trick, the second hose that would normally breath is capped off though..
-
#21have you got a pic mate ?
-
#22Loads in my journal dude.

#23ill have to have a look
