Engine Management Light, please help!!

    Hi all,

Totally new to posting on here and new to owning a saxo but have a problem with my engine management light.

Only bought the car last week!!!!!!! Its a 1.1 52 plate forte.

Driving back Monday on the motorway (only about 10min journey) the engine management light came on. No prob with the car, no misfiring etc etc, car is running fine. Called the breakdown out, they advised reading as a fuel sensor fault on bank 1. Cleared the fault and light went off. Driving back later light came on again, again no prob with car. Spoke to the garage, booked it in for wed. Started car next morning lights gone off!. Nearly at the end of my journey light comes on again! again no prob with cars drive. Drove it round that day and light went off! On journey back home light came on again!! Started next morning light off again! Nearly at the end of my journey light on again!!! Car went into garage that morning, went to pick it up later and they cant find a single thing wrong with the car apparently!! Its still reading as fuel sensor apparently its reading as running slight rich but Im not using excessive amounts of fuel. Its had a new cat (previous owner put it on and new back box and cam belt) the fuel sensor is fine and relatively new apparently and is reading fine. Emissions are spot on, ticking over no prob, pulling away etc no probs, no stalling, cutting out, misfire etc etc. Not overheating. He cleaned the throttle housing and cleared the fault again??????? Drove home no prob, on journey in this morning light comes back on again!! Sat stationary for about 2 hours, start up for journey home, light goes off just after ignition as normal, then nearly home lights on again!! Mechanics advice, just ignore it as he is totally stumped,!!

Any advice please would be greatly appreciated as this is doing me head in esp as I have only just got the car. The previous owner says they never had this problem...whether thats true or not who knows lol.

in my opinion i wouldn't bother with it mine stays on constantly and i have no problem been on ever sine i brought the car! which was nearly year and a half ago haha. its most probably the lamba sensor tbh!

Thanks guys, might change the lambda sensor then and see if that helps anyway.
Weird thing is light wasnt on when I got it, put £20 in her the next day and day after light comes on. Put £15 in her yesterday at a different garage and the light has stayed off all day??? Could it of been dodgy petrol??? Time will tell I suppose if the light comes on again lol either that or Im just a jonah

I'm pretty new to the forum as well and been having the same problems as you but sometimes it does have a real loss in power (usually when idling at traffic lights etc) anyone have any ideas on what could be causing it? Put it into the garage a couple of times and they have just reset it, but always comes back the next day

Hi, Im no expert but I believe a faulty Lambda sensor can cause loss of power and erratic idling esp if its running rich, so can a faulty cat if its clogged. Best to check with the garage as to what the fault code was and see if it was yr sensor or failing that check your emissions. Hopefully someone else can give a bit more advice. Im going to change my lambda sensor anyway, even though Im not getting any probs with the car just an annoying light lol (so far!!!). Good luck

I wouldnt worry about it! if the car is running fine, typical french car!! mines been on since day one ha

Emissions came back fine on the mot and I'm pretty sure the garage didn't tell me a fault code he just said he reset the error (done it 3 times now) Ordered a new lambda sensor last night hopefully it should come in a couple days, ill post an update when its fitted and hopefully problem solved
