de-cat the exhuast, 4-2-1 mani and then you are looking at cams

You can cam it but its pricey for the returns you get on the 8v. A rallye/xsi head is a good option after the usual exhaust upgrades etc as its got a 270 degree cam as standard, might be worth loom mods to run the rallye s2 ecu or get a remap to make the the most of the cam. Then you could fit bodies, a very fruity cam, pocketed pistons or go pressurised induction etc etc. However to keep costs down a 16v is a route to easy cheap power

dont forget the airfilter!! they add like 20-30 bhp!!
or 1-2 if you buy a good. if your lucky.

you could turbo it. altho that is pretty pricy

mild cam in an 8v barley makes a difference i would just 16v it or strip it out as its a free way to make ur car faster

A decent gearbox on a VTR is a big help. I'd do that before camming it myself, changes the way the car feels and drives

Like Adam661 says, strip it, I'm almost finished doing that to my 8v'er, you'd be suprised how much the interior weighs.

Gotta be a nice air filter and have access to air though ... Mine had a pretty poor one installed, with a few pipes / tubes going from the fogs to it though, it makes a little difference (to the sound too)

How is your progress on this going? decided what you are going to do yet?

As for stripping it, remove the back seats and all the un-needed stuff, will feel nippier
