Over heating problem

    So Its only just started happening but iv noticed in the past if I have been driving for a while and then stop and turn the engine off my car would leak water. It happened yeterday night aswell. This morning I refilled the heater bottle in the engine bay and thought it would work as it has done the trick other times this has happened


    But today I have driven for like a minit and the needle for the temperature has shot up to 3/4 on the dash.

    another example, the car has been sitting there for a good 4 hours so the engine is probably cool. I went to pick up my brother from work which is a 4-5 min drive and it was at 3/4 when got back and the fan was kicking in when I turned of the car. And has done this everytime I have turned of the car today the fan is just going. Got to the point this morning the red light was actually showing for the temperature

    I did notice no hot air coming out the heater in car though
    could this be down to water not getting to places it needs to?

    Please ask if I dont make sense

    Try flushing and bleeding the cooling system first!
    You'll find a guide on here!!

    Otherwise head gasket could be on way out!

    Sounds like either a leak, leading to loss of coolant and airlocks. It could also be a stuck thermostat or failing water pump. Worst case its over pressuring from a leaky head gasket. Bleed the system properly and then see what happens. If the coolant is leaking out of the radiator tank/bottle with no visible leaks in the system after bleeding, you'll need to investigate more

    This. Scale of good to bad :

    good = loose jubilee clip/split hose. Leaks water. Top up, results in air lock. Cure = bleed system after finding leak and curing.

    Bad = head gasket. Replace engine/gasket as desired.

    Would it be any help if I said I had recently changed the inlet to a VTR inlet and got a pipercross induction kit? Also get funny idleing sometimes because of the VTR inlet becuase of an air leak. Could this be something to do with it?

    No, the 8v inlet manifolds dont affect the cooling system. You have got the pipes on correctly though havent you, no water pipes accidentally connect to the inlet manifold or breathers?

    The white smoke followed by the seized engine generally give that away

    Yeah I have done it correctly. And can the head gasket go that quickly? Or would you slowly notice it going?

    Head gaskets can fail instantly with no warning, or more often slowly over a fair period of time. Often months. Check it's bled real well tho - Saxons are renown for being whores to bleed fully. Find your leak first mind you You said it leaks water - I interpreted that to mean "I can see water under the car". Where is it coming from?

    I personally think its comin from the heater bottle, and yeah I can see it under the car

    out via the cap or a leak from the bottom/radiator?

    Headgasket, how i know ? becuase mine does the same but car only gets really hot when at a stand still. Althought the only signs of headgasket i have is pressure in water system, poor fuel consumption.

    I've had oil in the cooling system before, the 8v TU sometimes leaks a few blobs into the water way when the gasket fails but it doesnt get past the fire rings. Yours is clearly pressurizing so either way it needs changing

    What needs changing? Gasket? How much? Big job? Car fucked? How long does it have? Aha sorry lol

    Okay so had the car fully looked over and the tiny bit of oil in the radiator water was nothing to worry about apparently it was from something else agess ago :s and the over heating was because the radiator cap was fucked, the seal. I bought a new cap added water and is exactly where it used to be, totally fine and nothing to worry about, thank you for all your help
