re located air filter need advise

   Hi guys ok i have a spi 1.1 engine and made the desision to re-locate it to the front. I havn't done this in thinking it will improve proformance but more the fact of trying to improve air flow. I used to have the filter installed direct into the head with no real air feed and with it been so close to the engine would only suck in hot air using more fuel. When relocating, though it would be a good idea to clean the head and rubber piping, and was a good job i did as the pips were thick in oil almost like gravy!! so cleaned then out the best i could. I managed to modify a air feed leading from just behind the front bumper leading to just underneith the filter allowing even more air flow. When mounting the filter it was resting on the radiator pipe but used metal tie wraps to secure and raise it off the pipe, but this is not shown in the pic. And the ducting that looks squashed isnt ripped or damaged its just because the head of the filter was much thinner than the tubing so its crimped tight to prevent air loss i hope. When running all is good but noticed the fuel needle went from a half way to a quarter when sat at lights and eventually raised back to a half. This conserns me a bit as the needle has jumped quite far but is this normal until the new install has time to settle in and the ecu chance to recognise better air flow has gone through? any thoughts or improvments welcome here are the pics:

   oh forgot to mention i used the offical pipercross filter cleaning kit, and did it as followed on instructions and allowing to dry natually

   The way the ducting is crushed will probably restrict airflow and make you worse off than just having it directly on like before.
   
   Mine is straight on the throttle body and makes a great noise, cant say it's slowed it down either, on a 1.1 it's not worth the messing really, if I was you I'd just put it straight back on directly.

   The filter will jump about imo. Doesnt look that secure. :/

   Not that you will see any gains on a 1.1 with this but it would be a lot better for you to have an elbow off the throttle body to the filter without all that feed you have crushed around.

   The red line is were the ducting ends so the main pip is well passed rhe squashed point. but would be a shame to put it all back after all that work, any way of mounting the filter?

   Just have a search at what other people have done on here mate, literally bolt it on to the throttle body, most saxo piper cross have a bend in the pipe to compensate for the room from we're you attach.

    1.1 have a special pip on the air feed to help with running. It creates a Venturi effect and pulls more in you have more than likely lost performance by doing all that . Just put back to standard with updated filter.

    yeah its eating my fuel too much not such a good idea alot of posative reponse has gone around with the k&n filter mounted direct onto the throttlebody, which makes sense now, should this fit?

    standard airbox and pipework with a k'n panel filter would be best, if ya really want run that foil pipe to the front of the car, but its a 1.1, nothing that you really can do, you wouldn't even really get many gains from itb's,

    You need smooth piping going from induction kit towards the throttle body. You will he seriously down on power.

    thanks for the reply guys yeah like i said didn’t do it to try and get performance but to help improve airflow to help against fuel wastage as looking were the filter was originally located it would only suck in hot air. I have gone and purchased the K&N 57i filter to fit direct onto the throttle body and run the black piping to it that comes in the kit this is what i should look like once fitted:
