No Power Steering & Battery Dead - Whats up?

   Hi guys, wondered if anyone here could help me.
   
   About a week ago my power steering went and I just decided I would leave it until payday and then get it looked at.
   
   Yesterday I drove to work fine, however I got in to drive home in the evening and the battery was dead. Im pretty sure no lights or anything were left on. I got a jump start and drove home (about a 10minute journey). As soon as I got home the battery was dead again.
   
   I have tried my blowers and rear heater and they don't work and the car wont start now, although the radio and electric windows are working, although they were not working when the battery died yesterday evening.
   
   Can anyone help me diagnose what the issue may be? Is it just a flat battery that needs replacing or is there something else wrong that needs looking at?
   
   Any help would be much appreciated.

   Charge the battery up,then get the alternator charging rate checked.

   as stevo said, get the battery sorted then see if a garage can check if the alternator is doing its job

   Do you know roughly how much I can expect it to cost me to get a new alternator fitted?

   can be quite expensive .. £150 maybe or more depends where you go really. before you go and get a new one fitted though im sure a garage would check all the wires and stuff first to make sure its not jsut anything loose. my alternator stopped once and i was gutted that the car seemed like it was packing up, turned out on of the wires connnecting to it have come out .. he jsut put it back in again and all was good

   Ah thats cool I can cope with £150. My brother knows a mechanic so he will take a look and diagnose it all for me and hopefully give me a good price for whatever needs doing.

   thats good man well if you know a mechanic thats always a good advantage, you know your not getting ripper off or anything. To be honest its probs just something small. Have you checked all the things like fuses and stuff as the power steering might not be working due to a fuse going. When a fuse blew in my car my indecators and electric windows went along witht he alternator .. weird lol

   cheers, tbh i dont even know how to check the fuses etc. but i will see if i can get someone to take a look that knows what they are doing, before i visit the mechanic.

    well fuses are all in a little box in the engine bay on the right usually next to the battery. they will all be little colour rectangles. usually just pull them out one by one and check they are not black or anything so that means you will knwo its not them if they are all good. so thats one thing out the way but as you said mate better to take it to a mechanic if your not comfortbale messing around yaknow

    It's a common problem that the power steering and rear demister/blowers don't work very simple job and there is a guide I'll find it for you in a bit all you need is a bit of wire and 2 spade terminals
