oil radiator

does stock VTS need oil radiator for track use?
same question for 743 (or 708) cams?

what are shopping options? or it is strictly DIY thing?

Is your car overheating? What's the length of time you're going to be on track?
  3. #3
Nope. Right now it's ok even in hot weather.
Max session time is 20 minutes long.

Will mild cams change something in heat department?

You should be alright with good quailty oil. 20 minutes is hardly a long time

id say youd be ok.with the standard heat exchamger setup
if you do notice temps going up get a thermostatted 13 row as a max

non.thermostat is a big no no

im running a rallye oil cooler on my vtr and done 25 minute session no issues

could you explain the thermostat bit, I didn't quite understood you...

In the sandwich plate between the oil filter and the engine, it has a thermostat in it. Basically it stops you cooling cold oil
  8. #8
same theory as the thermostat in your cooling system
lets theboil get to a certain temp before it allows it past to be cooled

over cooling an engine is just as bad as aver heating

I dont have a thermostat in my oil cooler...

I fitted the cooler set up because after 5-6 laps in a kart track the oil indicator would come up ( red light ) for high temperature

alex do u have any problems with day to day driving not havin a thermostat fitted..

It won't be day to day driving that'll cause problems, you'll be ruining your oil, and engine on startups. Utterly stupid.

think al just fork out for thermostatic plate then.. save hassle in future...

Oil is always cold on startup no matter what oil cooling setup you have. The problem will be the rate in which the oil gets to temperature

Yup, but the rate will be a lot longer. Plus of you're driving carefully at low revs and your oil cools down do you really want to cool it further? In the end Id rather spend the £20 on a thermostat.

Car wasn't really used for day to day driving , only too and from my local track.
Never had any problem with oil temp , after a while of ordinary low rev driving oil temp gauge would sit just under half . Max temp on track was at 3/4

Though i never got around to testing 10-60 race oil to see how that reacts heat wise

    10-60...

    You mad bro?!

10-50 is max i would go to with an engine built with that oil in mind...

Not yet ( though many think think so )

The thing is 10/60 oil has worked wonders on my brothers cosworth powered escort , a friend uses it oin his sierra rs , bmw give it for the top end M models and almost everyone use it on track...

Do take in mind temperatures here in Greece tend to be over 35 for about 4-5 months per year

10w60 is stupid, on an engine designed for 10/40

i found the standard oil heat cooler exchange thing needed to go in the bin for a proper thermo operated mocal cooler. this was way back when the cars only mods was r888 tyres, lowered on stock dampers, 266 brakes and pair of bucket seats.

i dont think the standard coolers are up to it if you are going to be going at a decent rate.
