Vts or vtr?.....o-oh

    Hi, possibly wrong section?

    I know this has probably been asked a lot. I have used search and google etc but just wanted some fresh opinions.

    Insurance isn't a prob...And although not as many about, vts's don't seem too much more than VTRs.

    So what are the pros and cons of each?

    Would all you vtr owners prefer to have a vts?

    Had both. Depends what you want from a car and what you mainly use it for? If you want to pay the extra fuel, extra tax and insurance?

    VTR's are very good on fuel for their performance.. Each of the 3 VTR's I've had get around 420-450 miles to a tank normal driving.

    VTS' sound awesome with the 16v engines, rev more and have a little bit more pull top end. They also benefit from ABS if you want that, electric wing mirrors and extra air bags.

    The best value for money car in the Saxo range is by far the Saxo VTR in my opinion, I've had 3 and will probably have one more! I use mine as a track/fast road car so no need for ABS, air bags, immobiliser or the slightly comfier interior.

    Stick a better gearbox on a vtr and it beings the car out a bit more as the stock box is dreadfully long. However the vts is far faster and better equipped.

    The 16v has a lot more pull everywhere IMO.

    Abs was an option on the Vtr too so iLife this important to you, they do exist

    Yeah the 16v engines are very lively!

    BIG has ABS on his VTR doesn't he. They are really rare to find though.

    My ideal would be a 16v converted VTR. But that's just me

    VTS.


    It has 16v and a decent gearbox. And AFAIK, they're pretty much the only differences between a VTR and VTS.

    Had 2 VTR's and always felt pissed off when i saw a GTI/VTS so now i've got a VTS. Just get the VTS if insurance is not a problem, they are certainly cheap enough to buy! I found insurance a big problem few years ago.

    When looking at insurance it was cheaper to insure my vtr turbo than a standard Vts

    What's the point in a 7.5k limit when a vtr has ran way past peak power :s

    rallye isnt a 7.5 limiter its a 7.2 and thats past the vtrs cam peak so pointless tbh

    if you have a rallye head and inlet on the 1.6 yea thats allright

    still not 7.5k though

    an s2 rallye box works well on the 6.2 vtr limiter trust me i have one lol

    if you can afford the more tax, insurance and fuel costs then i'd say a vts
    Not much in it tbh apart from one having 8 more valves which gives it a respectable 0-60 time.

    Harry289 - you can get 450miles to a tank!!?? i struggle to reach 300 lol and thats if im trying hard!

    I get about 430 out of my vtr. I like it and wouldn't mind and extra 8v at some times but its cheaper on insurance and tax so I like it

    That was the main reason I turbo'd my R

    Cammed R just wasn't enough and insurance on a vtr turbo was about 600 cheaper then a standard vts :confused:

    tbh depending how you drive it you can have as much fun in most of them

    ive got a 106 with 3 plug vtr with raceland airbox and a 1.1 gearbox pulls quicker than my old vts but slows down at 125 at top end but who does top speed most time anyway its all about acelleration, grip, downforce, lightweight, but then as blackie said its possible to just turbo it later for more power or ITB's

    my vtr with a higher spec than the above (made 110hp) with an xsi box was only on par with a 16v in a straight line

    no the vts was very quick it made 142bhp on dyno, but because my current 106 is alot lighter its all down to power to weight plus i have yoko tyres that grip alot more and the car is on gaz coilovers helping the car stay flatter. my 106 will be lighter soon with fibreglass bonnet and tailgate with the rear 3 windows polycarbs and the interior has been stripped out partly along with all the sound deadening and some of second skin removed, the car is also a basic model so it doesnt have abs,power steering, sunroof to worry about for extra weight to start off with. im also looking into oz superleggeras to save weight over the wheels. the bodykit has also been skimmed and gutted for less weight. theres no spare wheel cage etc etc loads of lil bits that ive got rid of or made lighter and theres still plenty to come off.

    Common knowledge a lighter car improves performance, you chose to ignore that first time round. Remove the same weight from the gti and the vtr would be way off.
