Engine stud nuts pushing against manifold pipes so i cant fit the mani

  1. #1
I tried fitting a manifold i just got of this guy and he had told me it was a phase 2 manifold but when i fitted it the stud nuts joining the engine and the manifold together weren’t getting to the end of the thread because the nuts keep on pushing against the manifolds pipes until it could go no further (which was about 1/2 way down one of the sides of the studs thread). Surly if it was a proper phase 2 mani it would do this

The mani i got looks exactly like this and that says it’s a phase 2

mk2 manifolds fit.around the paper filter. if there is no issue at the bottom it should fit

i dont understand your issue though, doesnt fit around the studs or they are not long enough to go all the way through?

    summat coild be bent??

take the studs out and replace them with bolts

Sorry just realised I was a genius and put bolts instead of nuts
Nah you can get the studs in but when you do up the nuts up it pushes against the piping so you can’t tighten them up

ohhh i think i know now what you mean!!

to be honest, that manifold link you posted has actually been discussed many a time on here, they are quite frankly shit (apparently)

so it goes that the design of them is not so great (as you have found out) and they are not that well flowing when compared with a supersprint/raceland which can be had for similar money....

you could try some smaller nuts to go on your studs, if any even exist, other than that, im not sure what else to suggest..

Poor manifold design probably, my old one was similar. Try some thinner nuts

You cut the studs down so they don't hit the pipes, every aftermarket manifold I've came in to contact with need at least one stud cutting

i think its stud 1 and 3 that cause issues on the bottom row from L-R
just saw down whichever is the culprit

no such issues with my raceland manifold though.... no botching needed....

just get a better quality one 2nd hand

In guessing its a sportex mani? If so They are actually decent manifolds just the welds are abit sloppy!
Just file down the welds so you can fully tighten the nuts!

a wild guess -- remove nuts from the studs --fit studs in head using 2 nuts to lock and tighten studs fullyso they are tight in head
then mount manifold and fit all nuts loosely then tighten up
