What Gauges for a turbo

  1. #1
What gauges do you think you need/want for a turbo? (multi choice)
  2. #2
    I'd say

    Boost
    Afr
    Oil temp
    Oil pressure
    Engine temp

On phone and can't be arsed to fanny on touching the right ones

    Boost/vac
    Water temp
    Oil temp
    Oil pressure
    Afr

Any more are just luxury really, on a turbo car an inlet temp gauge would be an added bonus so you know when to ease it off a bit

out of that lot the volt gauge is the only one i dont have fitted lol
  5. #5
I have all of the above. If I had to choose just one, most important to me would be oil pressure followed by afr.

Boost isn't all that important, since your ECU should be programmed to 'rev limit' if the boost goes over a preset level.

If you have a boost pressure leak then the gauge won't show this, but the turbo will be spinning faster than it should to make up for the hole in the intake, so I would add an expensive and difficult to fit gauge which is "turbine RPM". If that goes up and boost doesn't, then you have an intake leak.

The only way to get too much boost really is either a wastegate seizing or signal to wastegate failing

I said AFR, boost, water temp, and oil press.

But if i was only allowed 3.. delete the water temp.

a well setup car does not need any of them. But if you use it to be safe on a diy job i wouls say AFR, oil temp and oil pressure are the big 3
  9. #9
I've got all of them and I don't even have a turbo lol
