Hi am just curious to what you think would be the best. i have a mk2 VTR with the cat on mani, an need a new cat as its broken.

do you think i should save and buy a sports cat if so what would you recommend.

or just buy a stranded cat.

    cheers

Without a cat it won't pass mot/nct but if its done de-cat it

am sure av seen sports cats that fit on to slandered mani before, so they couldn't fail it as it has a cat

Just fit a standard one imo, unless you decide to fit mk1 style exhaust system

    throw the cat away

Id just buy a standard cat to get through emissions on mot day, and then buy a decat pipe for the other 364 days of the year

went through all this the other week m8 - total ballache lol. i really stuggled to find a mani-sports cat for the mk2 :/

heres probably the cheapest/easiest way if u dont want to simply replace the cat like i did (btw if you do HiQ did it for £150 parts n labour so u might wana check them out)

    1) get a 4-2-1 manifold - best off a mk2 vtr so it avoids the oil filter

    2) if you can only get one off a mk1 then you will have 2 relocate the oil filter either using your own skills or with one of the kits for sale on here (£25 i think). or possibly get a smaller oil filter off a small engined saxo (if yours aint tuned up)

    3) get either a sports cat or an underfloor cat off a 1.0 saxo and weld it under the car inplace of the middle silencer box if you have one

even with second hand parts and a friendly local exhaust specialist this is still gona be more pricey than just replacing the standard part and still not really give much in the way of power gains

That isn't cheap mk2 cat's start at £30 and its literally a 15 min job to fit it.

Your best bet is to get a 4-1 or 4-2-1 Mk2 manifold then use the Mk1 cat and Mk1 centre pipe. That way you can de-cat the car for normal use and re fit the cat come mot time.

Or if you want a cheaper option then fit the mk1 cast manifold and down pipe with the mk1 cat and centre pipe with a mk1 oil filter relocation kit from me for £25 posted.

I would keep the cat as its a pain come MOT time but you could convert to a MK1 setup and have an aftermarket manifold with and underfloor cat. That would be my choice.
