Cat Cam setup

  1. #1
Well guys, im putting in a set of 743's in the vts next week and just wondering if they are ok to just put on the standard timing marks or should i get a dial disc or somthing for timing them up as i havnt the cash to spend on a set of cam pulleys at the moment?

i fitted my 708's to std timing marks and then got pug1off to time them in properly, they will obviously perform better timed to the degrees that catcam specify, could loose quite a few bhp having them on std marks, and with the expense of camming your car and remapping then you want as much power as you can get out of them

spot on its a job you'd want to get right the first time! Did he set them up with a dial disc then after you put them in was it or did you not have standard pulleys?

Use the standard pulleys with a DTI gauge to adjust to cat cam specs

you wouldnt happen to know what the correct specs are? as ive tried to find but nothings coming up only the actuall specs of the cams

Would to know myself my 743's are on standerd timing marks at the mo

Link Click camshafts then citroen and then 734

run them on the standard timing if you are using the standard induction...

early last year i fit a set of these on my old engine. at standard marks made 130bhp flywheel not wheels. that was with at power bodies, saxsport, miltek manifold, predator ecu (mapped to my car) and new 330cc injectors.

i gained a further 20bhp by tuning on rolling road.

and then a further 8bhp by changing to a btb manifold.

^^ out of interest what manifold were you using before the change to a btb?
  11. #11
    miltek 421

then changed to gmc btb 4-1

could be difference in rollers but the power graph was slightly different for the better

do you mean standard as in the standard injection system or just standard airbox?
  13. #13
    standard inlet manifold

So your saying change the whole inlet manifold just for cams? :/

no i'm saying run the 1321743 on standard timing if you are running standard inlet.
Start playing with timing when running throttle bodies.

When i did these we played about with the timing quite abit (standard inlet) and found that the most power was made on the recommended marks, (iirc there the samne as 708's) however my idle did suffer it is at 1100.

i was jsut about to say tom5190 did the cam test for the 743's and made most power when adjsuted to the specified degrees

when i fitted my 708's they were timed in to catcams recomendations and then as im ruunning bodies the inlet cam was adjsuted further to increease the power

Yea i think what Kam means is that esspecially if your running without a remap standard timing marks are better in terms of idle and driveability etc. Mine on the 708's kept cutting out without the map but on standard marks its likely that it wouldnt of.

A good remap will help sort the idle and low revs. It will not idle well without one, or make great power as you will run lean at top end.
