vtr engine loss power

  1. #1
hey! my brother has a 2003 vtr 3 plug and says it wont go over 3000rpm and loss of power anyone came across this? i disconnected the lampda sensors but the problem was still there and no fault codes have came up. anyone shed some light?

If its just a small loss in power, it could be the map sensor, if its a large loss of power, could be the coilpack or the cat has collapsed inside the exhaust, but if it's the coilpack you'd notice it running lumpy too

tried both lambda sensors now , fault is still there , changed over map sensor and checked coilpack there ok ... what else can this be?

ill unbolt the cat tomorrow c if it makes any difference

put your hand over the back of the exhaust to check if theres gasses coming out at a normal rate

i doubt that will tell mee anythin bud, it revs idling but dies about 6000rpm and does not hit the limmiter for ages

    update :

took cat off the car today and did not make a difference at all and changed fuel filter still no change

    anyone?

If I'm right they only rev to 6250? So there's no real need to rev over 6000 anyway?

thats besides the point... ita clearly not running right, when was the last time it was serviced new plugs oil coolant new coilpack oil filter and air filter... i did all of these last weekend ( got 03 vtr engine in my car ) and its amazing the difference it makes, have you got a engine managment light showing ? could be in limp mode, i had a furio that wouldnt hit the limiter just made a realy strange blllrrrrr noise at about 6 thousand rpm that turned out to be the ECU, also could be flywheel/ crank sensor if the engines making a loud nocking then could be bottom end fucked so manny possabillatys

yeah its been serviced , no engine managment light showing at all, im thinking its the ecu now but gonna try the map sensor first, if it was the crank sensor the car would not start , it starts and ticks over perfect ! just when you give it a rev on idle it struggles to hit 6000rpm! and when your driving its dead on power it will hit 45 at a push up a hill and 70mph down a hill at a push!

Either plugs or coilpack are shot. Suprised it hasnt thrown up eml

plug it into a diagnostics machine and see what the fuel quantity comparison is like, could possibly be injector related.. and the reason i asked to put your hand over the back of the exhaust was to see if it was restricted witht the flow of exhaust gas, save you taking the cat off.

sounds like plugs / coilpack dead to me

Update for folk with same problem as this

had a ulocked vtr ecu from an ecu specialist and fitted it and the problem is still there but now its throwing up engine managment light, so i read the code on it and it says the following

P0443 - Evaporative Emissions System Purge control valve circuit

so tomorrow im goin to have a look at the purge valve see if the wires coroded etc
