1.5 Diesel fuel consumption

Need some help from anyone who has had experiences of them.

Mine seems a bit heavy on the juice.
Just serviced it today replaced all filters and oil and still seems to drink a bit.

I only got 420 to a full tank and it seems a bit too smokey on full throttle. Im thinking the pump may have been cranked up a bit but i dont know how to check.

What sort of mileage were people getting from a tank and how do you check the pump?

    Cheers.

Used to rake mine allover (only way you can drive them)

    Usually about £10/100 miles

Full tank was like £52 and got about 535 miles

Mine is worse on a long run which is making me think its an issue when im near full throttle since it smokes a lot on full throttle.

Mine did about 550 to a tank driven calmly overall and perhaps 450 riding it like Frankel.

Cheers Ross that makes me feel better.

I'm starting to think when the cam belt has been done that the timing hasn't been done up correctly.

Yeah some people I see claimed (on posts in the past) they were getting like 700 to a tank - no idea how. Maybe I don't drive gentle enough, but even when I would drive like miss daisy I'd only get very high 500's max. Maybe mine was fucked too lol.

    45 litre tank = 9.898 gallons
700 miles would be 70.7213578501 mpg, LOL is all I'm gonna say.

get that from the VTR hammering it round town :/

I've never looked at the pump on one of these engines aly, so need idea tbh

Could be a drippy injector... They are pressure activated by the pump and have a spring in them which can dreak or go weak...

dost seem that good, i get 360+ out of the vtr ragging the sh*t out of it and sill getting over 40mpg
  15. #15
    100miles for £10

as opposed to 50 miles to £10 in the vtr

450 sounds about right for mixed driving.

When you really think about it you can get 600+

when they wer curretn citreon did a publicity stunt with an ax diesel ,bx diesel +a xm diesel all of them managed to get from lands end to john o groats on a single tank -average cruise speed was never mentioned .
I can say that a good saxo diesel when fiarly new ,with granny driver could get 70 mpg no problem --some customers claimed 80+ .
it must be ten years old + diesel avaiable now is not as good --(bio additives etc) then add to that if you buy supermarket fuel it will do less mpg ,then maybe your injectors are not best pattern --,maybe running too cold ? when were the tappet shims last adjusted? non genuine ex system --full of crap ?
all these things will make difference
certainly worth using a tin of injector cleaner in it as a starting point

I'm sure I worked mine at 67.x mpg when I was trying to see what it would het

my neighbour used to have an AX diesel. he drove it like a baby and every year before the MOT he would have my dad thrash it up the road to clear it out so it would pass its emissions. He used to get between 650 and 700 a tank from it i remember him saying.

and the tank was smaller on an ax diesel than the saxo
  21. #21
I remember adsayer used to get over 700 miles to a tank..

easy to get 600.... its getting to 650 upwards that becomes the hard part......
did from home... to newquay and back; plus a weeks driving to work (LE9 9JT) and ran it so dry it coughed on the way to the fuel pumps..... WOOPS

    56mph MAX.
