#2people run ford MSD coilpack's - not sure what they use to connect it to the loom though.. Have a search for 'ford MSD coil pack' and see what comes up

(they use leads connected to a distributor block ie external like you say) -
#3i can only find aftremarkit one's can you name anycars that come with them standerd
ford coil pack conversion -
#4Can you still put the coilpack cover over the leads still? is it "plug and play" sort of set up?
-
#5quite easy conversion to do if you got the parts you can use an old style 8v coil pack pretty sure the plug fits on to as for leads corsa 1.4 16v iirc or the sport ones fit fine from what I've read in the past.

#6iv just got a ford one but now need advice as my car has 4 wires to coil and the new coil has 3
£118 i just payed £20 for the same from my locel brakersQuote: -
#7From atspeed site
For ford to saxo pin out they say works for pretty much any Citroen Peugeot
Pin > Saxo Pin
Violet 1 > 1
Yellow 3 > 2
Red 2 > 3
UNUSED > 4X -
#8there differnt colers
right i worked it out.this is for anyone who wants to run a ford ig coil. and dont want to spenf loads this can be done for less than £20 and is better than standerd.
1. go down ur locel scrap yard and find your self a coil of a ford (i used a focus zetec-s)
2. cut the plug with about 3-4 inch's of wire (of doner car)
3 get ya self some plug leads i have used x2 1 plugs leads and x2 2 plug leads 3 and 4 are a bit short .
4. remove ur old coil and plug leave as much wire as possible.
5. u ignore the little black wire that comes of the top of ur rocker ur left with 3 wires join green - green obs the other colors i can not remeber but will edit when i can see them the 2 wire is what tells the coil to fire so 1 wire will fire 1-4 other is 2-3 so if it wont start try other way will correct this in the morning and add pics -
#9that is not an MSD system ,just a std coil pack1 user thanked this post:

#10MSD coil packs are expensive! people just use a standard ford one dont they?
-
#11thats all i have used is a standerd one of a facos zetec s cost me £5 with ht leads 10 mins later and i have saved loads i think a oem coil was £150 pat part £71 scrappy was £30 but had none so i used ford and it seems to run alot better 2 tbf
-
#12What do you gain from doing this conversion
-
#14i will say it is an upgrade for the fact the ford coils are ver reliable also you can ypgrade the ht leads and coilpack's and there a lot cheaper. i have not found a upgrade vts coilpack but can find lots for for and at half the price of a standerd vts coilpack so in my mind it is an upgrade also looks cool 2 with blue ht leads.
-
#16Are you forgeting where it is located at the top of a hot engine, this way the coil is placed out of the way and out of direct heat where in effect it cooks the coil so id say it is a upgrade plus my vts seems more better on petrol and just seem's a bit better on pick up

#18Where do you mount the coil if your using the standard air box?? Has anyone got any pictures of there set ups?
-
#19Ford coil packs handle extended dwell times better than a coil pack which tends to overheat.
-
#20exactly^^^
if its a relatively standard car, will make no performance difference, only more reliable than the stock 16v ones which are known to be a bit of an issue.
only time you see "performance" benifit is on engines that require high spark energy, i.e. high boost turbo / supercharged. the stock coils do not take so kindly to longer dwell times (basically time spent charging the coils) whereas the ford ones can handle them quite happily. and by calling it a performance gain - thats assuming the stock coils were not man enough for the job and you ran into misfire problems under high load - so really, its misfire prevention/correction on high boost engines.

i used a peace of ally and mounted one side the the rocker cover and other side holds the coil firmly in position. remeber not to use stoc leads due to 3-4 leads being a bit short
