throttle bodies & turbo ?

  1. #1
basically my mate has got a megane at k-tec being done to 300bhp and wants throttle bodies but dont no what thay are and i was trying to explain to him and i said you cant have them if you've got a turbo. but he's adament that you can have both. but im no mechanic but this is not possible is it, and just want someone who's 100% sure
  2. #2
    Yes it's possible.
  3. #3
Yes, many people have done it..

    Why is it impossible?
  4. #4
the general concensus is that you cant have both but it is possible, one of the small jap cars coems with both as standard iirc, i was thinking about turbo'ing my jenveyd vts but i dont thinkt he gains would be worth keeping the bodies and id be better off selling the bodies and using std inlet

oppps my bad i said you couldn't lol now i feel like a right dick, just didn't think it could work, surely it wouldnt do much though would it or would it be even worth it?

Wouldn't bother if he is trying to get his meg up to 300.

    Dump Valve
    Air box mod (with panal)
    Straight through from turbo.
    630cc injectors and Walbro pump
    Forge IC.
    ARP head bolts.

For 280ish BHP and good torque with a nice map, if he wants more it starts to get very expensive.

been done a couple of times to saxos

    http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...e+bodied+turbo

and there was a silver mk1 with it done, but i cant find the thread

you might be able to get a better throttle response using multiple throttle bodies compared to one large throttle body but it certainly makes things a lot more complicated, expensive etc considering you probably will not see a bhp gain...

In simple terms a throttle body is an electric carb, instead of jets and needles the ecu squirts the amount of fuel in as required. Most engines run only one. A multiple throttle body set up enables each cylinder to get the optimum amount of fuel.

Dont worry we also think you are a dick for not using the engine sections

Correction. It allows each cylinder to get the optimum amount of air.

i cant help but think the lack of mechanical knowledge in this situation may not end well. if he doesnt know what a throttle body is, is he sure he wants to delve into the world of engine tuning?

Someone doesnt need to know anything to pay a tuner to do the work and then go and drive the thing.

Not everyone cares for the ins and outs of an engine. They seek advise and spec from a tuner and then hand over some cash. You hope they get a good tuner who will say he does not need tb's but if the customer insists then its his money to spend..
Driving its the best bit right?

Since k-tec is in the op's question whats the general consensus about them and their tuning work.

I have personally used them but cant say i was overly happy with their service or work..

the only reason to use t/bodies with boost is if you are wanting to run very high rpms+ very wild cams
no need for 95%of boost conversions
the car that had both was a nissan GTIR --that was done purely for homolgation purposes as they intended to go into wrc rallying with it --but along came the evo and nissan didn,t bother

Lotus esprit turbo had aswell trying to upload my pulsar bay but photobucket is weird now
  18. #18
Yes i forgot about the lotus ,but to be fair it was not a good turbo set-up anyway.
I thin that was because lotus was too lazy to start agin and just bolted a turbo on the manifold they had

Turbo esprit are crap I was so dissapointed with the one I went out in
  20. #20
very poor conversion they did .
A few years ago i converted one to prper ecu injection etc,no dizzy etc etc and then it went ,but engines are very weak and so enclosed heat was a real problem engine being in the rear .
it did make near 340 bhp , but I couldn,t let it make the bhp it wanted to due to manifold trying to melt everyting in the engine bay including the bonnet panel when you stopped the car .
    LOL

This ^^^ Not worth doing imo unless money was no object and you wanted some decent pub bragging rights.
