Cam choice

Looking for a cam to use with my 8v rallye. Power figure, well i would like 160bhp atf, but realistically anything over 150 I would be happy with. (yes I am going to be using tb's)

I am going to be using a JP4 bottom end, and getting the pistons notched so valve clearances will be ok. And and S1 rallye head with the relevant headwork.

I have narrowed it down to two catcams as piper doesn't seem to have a large selection anymore?

The 645 or 671

Now the 671 under the parts column it says "custom" So im guessing you would need different valve springs and or lifters? Also I guess drivability will be decreased? Its not going to be a daily anyway, more of a toy.

Are you expecting it to be road legal and pass an mot? are you wanting to spend lots of money on headwork, expensive engine components? Are you wanting to run it on throttlebodies?

The 4900645 is probably as lairy as you want to go. That will still be touch and go whether it will pass an mot on emissions or not. Its a rally cam with plenty of mid range and top end power.

The 4900671 needs lots of work to the head to fit the camshaft, I doubt will work with the standard inlet manifold, needs aftermarket retainers and springs which will double your build costs at least.

If you want a good power but fast road cam then the 4900640 is a much better choice

Yeah im going to be using the Sandy and Colin gsxr setup. Think I might just go with the 645 then, as the 671 will prove to be quite costly!

so long as you understand that an 8v even with t/bodies giving 160 bhp will NEVER pass a real cat test as the profile rquired on a an 8v is such that it will dirty at low rpms --If it will then the cam is not iwld enough to give the bhp + yes dif springs needed

Lifters ==no lifters ona an 8v --rocker arms -i would use old style -- not roller type --make sure to say as cam profile are dif for both

I am guessing this is a 1587cc rallye and not a 1294cc

also using std jp4 pistons will limit your comp ratio --which is very important for 8v --
