How the f**k

Just in the middle of changing my vtr driver side drive shaft but am unable to get the mount to line up on the engine is there an easy way
  2. #2
Huh mount engine :s why would u need that to do a driveshaft??
  3. #3
I think he means the bearing carrier half way along. Fit the mount to the block first, then thread the driveshaft and bearing through, finally doing up the bearing securing bolts. its more long winded but 10x easier

Oh I understand now! Yea the way Gandhi said is a lot easier, just a little tricky sometimes to get the bolts and nuts in and to start haha

The old one came out peace of piss and the new one was removed from a whine out of car I did one a few years ago on a 206 but can not remember been such a bull ack but thanks for ur help

You do realise you can remove and refit the driveshaft without taking the bearing carrier off? And its 10x easier.
I cant understand your last post very well but rarely any need to remove it tbh.

Yeah no need to remove carrier, but make sure when putting back that the 2 pins that hold it all in place in the carrier go in right...

Ok I didn't know that the shaft come out of the Carer thort it was one unit but any how's I have just left it as putting a new gearbox on tomoz what do you recommend
  10. #10
yep theres 2 10mm nuts on it to loosen off and allow the bearing to slide out
then the whole shaft just pulls out

remove shaft from carrier and refit the carrier before you do the box.

then when youve fitted box, shafts will just slide in, and then retighten the bearing retainers.... they look like hockey sticks when you take them out....

Okay cheers pal what box will you recommend hear people like to run the 1.1 boxes I'm running a vtr with 140bhp
  12. #12
Dont know how true, but been told all the boxes are the same... Could be wrong
  13. #13
I have been told the ratio's are different and you get alot more torqe with a 1.1 box
  14. #14
i still use my vtr box on my itbs at 160..... love it, to be honest though havent thought about that yet, possibly the rallye box next
  15. #15
what mods are on the vtr to run 140 bhp?
the engine will still be making the same amount of torque, the gearbox fitted doesnt affect this
  16. #16
Don't think I can lay my hands on a rallye box I can get a 1.1 or a quicky or vtr and vts

I always thort with different gearing it will effect the torqe. I have had the bottem end rebuilt with 2mm oversized forged pistions. Cammed , ported polished head, + couple of other mods

Go for a vts box out of those imo, and the bearing carrier nuts are 11mm btw.

Higher final drives do work as a torque multiplier.

1.1 boxes aren't weak, Had one for 20k+ miles and use it in anger. Just don't light the wheels up in every gear on wet days and it will last.

VTS box has a sports cluster - so slighter stronger - however slightly lower FD compared to 1.1 box - Also vts box has a lower top speed than 1.1 box.
