"Stalling"

I Put the speech marks as I dont think its actually stalling.

What happens is, when I am slowing down to a junction for example, I push the clutch in to change down a gear and the engine can cut out, I thought at first it was stalling completely and so was turning the key in the ignition which would start the car again with no problems.

However I noticed last night when driving it, that if I am still rolling slightly and I lift the clutch again, the lights go back off and the engine has kicked in again.

It is an intermittent problem as it may not happen for a week but then might happen 3 times on a single journey, I also noticed a whistling noice from the enginer when i first switch it on.

I dont think its an electrical problem as I know the previous owner of the car and she had it tested a few weeks ago, The only issues I know of other than that with it is that the cat is failing and needs replacing and that the clutch bearing is making excessive noise (Notes from previous work done on car).

Could be the coil pack or your ICV

    Are your battery connections ok?

Sluggish ICV, probably needing a clean.

what happens is it can't adjust in time to "catch" the falling revs usually due to dirt/oil form the crank case breather, so the engine stalls and then immediately starts back up again after it settles.

remove ICV and clean it with a clean cloth and some wd-40 or something.

I would also say idle valve needs a clean. 10 min job. The reason the engine kicks in again when you let the cluch up is because, your still rolling so basically youve push started the car...
    Use to happen with me.

had this before, with the idle revving up and down slightly when stationary. +1 on clean the idle control valve and check the coil pack for dirt and moisture (common in winter), easy fix.

Well i didnt actually get round to doing this at the weekend but will be trying this the weekend coming.

I am looking at the guide here http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...=174710&page=6

and looks ok, just wanted to check, should i Just move to the part where I take out the ICV itself and clean it, or do i do as the guide says.

When its idling there is no issues with the revs at all, it is literally just when changing gear.

The car is stalling, you're just effectively bump starting it when you lift the clutch and it starts again.
